Re: A discussion regarding wounds and injuries?
One thing that bothers me is that when someone has visible damage, I interpret it as open wounds and if someone has 50 damage, it usually means they're halfway cleaved in half with their intestines showing. It's okay to continue having pains and bruises and scars after your wounds have closed, so there's nothing stopping you from eating healing food. It doesn't mean you would have to stop rp'ing injuries.

You're lucky then.

I didn't used to mind that sort of thing at all, but it just seems to be some kind of fad now and I've been seeing it everywhere to the point I'm getting pretty sick of it now. Girls in their twenties with very similar personalities in most cases so I'm suspecting there might be someone just spawning a whole litter of them. Different game to everybody, etc.
But to me it's not on the same level as 'disabled' chars, as in most cases being blind/mute/crippled/whatever is still something that can add to RP in a community without trying to seize control of it. I guess the place where I draw the line comes down to whether the RP comes off as disruptive just for the sake of being disruptive. It's a matter of respect for other players, really. If a player is demanding their character get all the attention from everyone right now for their unique and special condition every time they're awake and shouldering out all other RP around them...while still having no intention of having their character actually recover and move on with their lives no matter how much care they get...then yes, it gets frustrating, and annoying. Not helped by the fact that you're always aware there's nothing actually wrong with the character, it's just performance art on the part of the other player that they're sucking yours into now too with no polite way to extricate them.
Same reason I get annoyed by overly sensitive crying girls or suicidal types, really. It just feels extremely manipulative.

Re: A discussion regarding wounds and injuries?
People who try to roleplay something as "happening slowly over time", except that it's all happening before they turn thirty. People who create newspawns who already look old (perhaps a balance to the old people who look young? I don't even know.)
I would politely request that people try not to make me feel terrible about not knowing what to do about your roleplayed illness. Even IRL I'd be like, "Did an aspirin help? No? Okay, let's get you to the hospital." In Cantr, while I can appreciate that some people may want to play a medical drama while others play a relationship drama or whatever else, I'd really rather that any situation not be thrust on me in suck a way that makes me out to be a horrible person if I do not wish to participate in it.

That's why I said that in MY mind... it's a role playing game. That's why I play the game. Not for the mechanics. Most games DO have mechanics, so cantr is unique in that (again... for me), it's a role playing game that has a characteristic no other role playing game does.
And there are overly sensitive girls / guys in real life, so it would be rather silly for none to exist in a society simulator. While I agree that if they are SELFISH about role playing ... yes, it's annoying.... I can't agree that it's annoying ALL the time. I think there's a lot of hatred for disabled / weak / ill / stuttering / in-any-way-not-perfect characters, and it's a little sickening and disheartening. Yes... those people exist in most societies. Not everyone has to be a raging, bitchy character in order for the world to be 'likeable'. And personally, I'd rather have an ill, active member who contributes to the game.... than a sleeper or someone who kills off their character because they roll a (mechanically) 'weak' one. At least they're playing a game that's....well... meant to be played.

It's because they're more common than dirt and have been for years and years, yet still seem to act as if they/their players think they're special and unique and 'more RP' than everyone else. And it's almost always a newspawn that hasn't taken any time to get involved with their community beforehand, so it's like you know they spawned the char entirely for this purpose. It's the 'normal', non-gimmicky chars that develop personalities naturally based on their experiences and surroundings that are like beautiful rare unicorns in this game, IMO.

In my experience such characters can be played as well or as badly as any 'normal' character, and doesn't so much generate more RP as different RP.
If they're not getting as far as 'normal' characters, perhaps it's because people are treating them badly/ignoring them out of OOC assumptions that they're gonna be special snowflakes or not contribute or just be 'too common'.

Yes, I think this happens way too often (and is evident by in game first reactions (i.e. characters not being given a chance)), judging by the complaints on the forum board and the hatred spewing on the radio in game. I wish players were a little more open minded and not so discouraging to those of us who may wish to play those not-so-perfect characters.
I must be in all the "wrong" places though, because I see more 'bitchy' or 'normal' characters than ill / weak / etc characters. Thankfully, I haven't noted it to be excessive and have experienced a decent variety of personalities in game. I've been playing for 5 months now, and I can say I've probably seen five to ten that were definitely just attention whores who selfishly rp'd.

Re: A discussion regarding wounds and injuries?
They obviously have a place in the game, but I think Marian summed it up more or less.
Those types of characters are common, and personally, I find them a bit exhausting to play with. It's just not fun for a lot of people to constantly have to coddle someone, and when you see -so- many characters like that every year in the game... yes, you start to just avoid them.
Just as they play the game for their reasons, other people play the game for theirs, and some people just don't find that kind of RP fun.
It's not that they're hated. It's just the majority likely find them not enjoyable.
Honestly, if you play a character like that, you should probably expect that people don't want to hang out with an overly emotional and over sensitive person in most cases anyway.
They're not enjoyable people to hang around with in real life either.
I do think it's unfortunate. A few bad apples spoil the bunch so to speak. It ruins it for other characters that act that way, but actually have something to offer.

Re: A discussion regarding wounds and injuries?
Well I have a stutterer that has spent most of her life indoors and in no way tries to gather attention. So it irritates me when characters in game immediately start bullying her because they assume she's one of 'those'. It seems ooc'ly motivated and it's not very nice. I didn't create her to gather pity, but to be different (and being new to the game, how was I supposed to know that there were many stutterers / there was so much discrimination towards them?). I've seen / heard stutterers being bullied countless times without anyone even trying to get to know them. Coming to the game as a new player and expecting to have fun.... it's not very encouraging, I can tell you.

As someone who has problems with stuttering in real life, I personally find most depictions of it in-game to be kind of offensive and unrealistic, not to mention overstated and difficult to decipher.

I once met a person in real life who stuttered and it was really painful to listen to. It made me feel really uncomfortable. The same with people whose hands shake. I just can't watch them.

I once met a girl in real life with a broken leg I told her to eat some honey and she punched me in the face.

I'm curious why you would think this has anything to do with OOC motivation. Personalities clash and 'niceness' is in no way a requirement, nor is going out of your way to try and get to know characters that irritate yours.
Besides that, having your character be universally liked has nothing to do with 'having fun'. Your character is not you. You're playing a role, just like the other players. If your enjoyment in the game hinges on other characters always responding to yours in the way that you want and always being nice, then I don't know what to tell you, except that that's not how interacting with others has ever worked.
Aside from all that, I seem to hear people casually tossing the words 'meanness' and 'bullying' around a lot lately, IC and OOC. It always makes me wonder what game they think they're playing.

This game is Sesame Street, compared to other games on the interwebs. So, I do hope the skin is thicker then it appears, when words like that get floated about.

Re: A discussion regarding wounds and injuries?
I don't mind playing wi th injured characters except for when they are fucking unreasonable dickbags. Excuse the language but shedevil can back be here. Our characters once tried to heal someone who was having trouble breathing (none of this even involved actual mechanical injury) and did what they could only everything they were doing wasn't enough. Im not talking throwing honey at it, either. Then we getan ooc saying "a collapsed lung is whats wrong with this character, come on, I could handle this in real life just fine" or some similar silliness. Nope, I wash my hands clean of you. Oh, wait, you've now wandered out of town with that collapsed lung you could fix irl? Let me tell you what you couldn't do, irl.
So yeah, if you're reasonable about shit, I generally will play along to an extent, that extent being when you become unreasonable.
And I agree with something Seko said earlier. Heal your cut! Keep rping its there idk but like others said don't RP eating the 600 grams of honey someone gave you if you're not going to eat it you ......
