The downside with working with people on the railroad.. They carry the plague germs *everywhere*. Swear I was half expecting one guy tonight to cough up his lung in my work vehicle. If I catch this plague running rampant around here, my she devil horns will grow and they won't like me much. Not that they do anyway since I don't put up with their BS and I have an ace in my pocket of being their favorite drivers daughter.
Now.. Carry on with your emoting..

Oh look, another glorious morning… makes me SICK!

*wonders why Shedevil is going through all this trouble for popcorn when OC has several oversized tubs of it scattered around his lazyboy recliner, along with the gallons of coffee*
But it's just that time of year and if you're around other people you're going to get sick, there's no avoiding it.
Flu season last year with all the ebola scares going on at the same time was really fun.

Clearly the way to deal with people emoting thoughts is to loudly discover your amazing new abilities to read minds.
Marian, curious, what is a 'fake illness'?

I just can't afford to get sick. The whole bills and responsibility thing. Found out I can't even miss 4 hours of work and be able to pay what needs paid.
Edited for a mistake made in a sleep deprived state.

Or the short version, having your character come down with severe, dramatic medical conditions that don't even exist in Cantr, for the purpose of attention getting.

Re: Thought or Rant of the day!!!
How do you decide it's for the purpose of attention getting? There have been a lot of illnesses/medical maladies popping up lately, but I think if it's properly RPd (and the two I've seen have been) and have a cure that's possible to RP (ex, amputation, a brace, a compress, simple surgery). For example, someone gets an infected wound? (Instead of slice-->not even a wince as they reach for the honey, which mechanically, is valid, but makes for less interesting RP, IMHO) Reach for a knife, maybe some alcohol if you got it, it's time to drain that sucker. I've had a wonderful time RPing healing, and it also promotes people to RP new lines of life, like being a doctor or making apothecary things.
Mental illnesses, too, can be fun to RP, especially if the other player is down to RP letting you 'cure' it (magic may not exist but that doesn't mean people don't believe in it, right?)
I honestly don't understand the kickback against it, unless you have a repeat offender, or their sickness is just coughing a lot or something.

If it's RPed in such a way that it's not possible for anyone else in town to do anything but give that character all their attention, all the time without looking like a callous jerk, even when there's realistically nothing they could actually do to help, then it's what I'd consider spotlight grabbing.
It's one of those things that's hard to precisely define, but it's obvious when you see it and lately it seems like a plague upon the game on the level with hypersensitive stuttering girls. It's the difference between 'interesting conversations/events that are happening that anyone can take part it' and 'everyone drop whatever clearly less important things you're doing and PAY ATTENTION TO MEEEEEEE!!!!'
And it annoys me too because it demands a level of OOC, real world knowledge from the characters that get involved that I'm simply not comfortable with. Pretty sure I wouldn't feel very confident IRL about sawing someone's arm off or performing surgery or anything beyond basic first aid, so I don't see how my characters who have never even heard of a particular medical condition or any injury that can't be healed with healing food, and are encountering it for the very first time in their lives can be expected to know how to handle it, beyond what Snowdrop said, trying to keep them warm and comfortable.
How long did it take people IRL to figure out how to successfully treat infections or broken arms, and that's with those things being a fact of life in our world in a way it's simply not in Cantr's.

Tell them that dung cream solves it all. If they say it doesn't then they're using OOC knowledge that doesn't exist in-game and you should amputate their head. (:

13000th post in this thread!
/obnoxious
Usually when I play devastating illnesses they're either ones that'll go away on their own anyway or they're lethal and the character is on my kill list. That list has been very short, by the way.

Has anyone played/heard of Rust? I keep looking at it and going "this would be amazing with a cantr server".

Not really. I have it, and if needbe, I'll do some recordings for it to show show you. Not a good choice of platform.

Oh? I know the main detraction is the other players.
