Well - it's hard to say why the player abandons the character. But - at least in my case - I tried and successfully found a group that was going to that area, only to not bother moving the now-sleepy and now-starving newspawn.

I wasn’t thinking of players who prefer not to play in such circumstances, which is understandable, but rather of the travellers, who when they know that there is a newspawn, don’t do anything to help.

There was a brand new player yesterday complaining that two of his newspawns had immediately been attacked and dragged off. So, there's worse things than abandonment.

Very warm welcome :/ That doesn't help at getting new players at all

Blizzard. It's winter.
No wind.
Someone explain to me what a blizzard is again?

Maybe it just means really heavy snowfall in this case?

You would just think there would be rough winds during a blizzard...

The problem is that it literally can't be called a blizzard if there isn't any wind.

The weather and the winds aren't connected at all. I'm pretty sure the wind is completely random. You get odd combinations sometimes, but I thought that one was especially strange.
I'm not actually sure what the point of the wind is, except maybe to make sailing even stranger.

Oh, yeah. Though it seems it's not that random on deserts, cause some have like no wind at all most of the time

There probably is a connection, even if it doesn't make sense in some cases.

I dunno, up here we have white-outs (blizzard visibility) with zero wind.

If eventually sailing is affected by wind, it will teach a lot of players to tack.
Tacking may make sailing over large bodies of water more tricky, you can't just sleep travel.
Probably also make piracy a little more tricky, an "un-fortuitous" change in wind can help them get away...or caught.

Put all that time I spent playing "Pirates! Gold" to good use.
