Not asking actual names, obviously. But it's a pretty strong accusation already, since it targets 'a' player instead of a general trend like most of these.

For myself, the only situation I could think of that something like that would apply to would be people who killed without RP. And I've definitely never seen anyone bragging about that.

When spawning a new character, or as a twenty-something in general, it's really hard to work up the gumption to actually work and legitimately earn a big item (vehicle, boat), when it's so easy for all of that hard work to go down the drain should you come across the wrong people. Especially if the place you're doing it in is a vehicle/ship graveyard.
It's also hard to stay on the path of honesty or goodness in a character when I had a character spawn, steal a boat, and literally stop at every place along the coast and grab whatever wasn't nailed down. No one ever even noticed, and now they've got a semi-legitimate presence and trade setup.
Many others spawned and are toiling quietly away in half-empty towns for rates leaders demand them to be grateful for.
I wish the Cantr economy was less diamonds (massive supply with a forced bottleneck by controlled trade limiting) and more true supply and demand.
Don't get me wrong, as a play style I commend the players for solid RP work, but as a player it's hard to keep interest in that character. I don't do traditional MMOs cause I can't stand what is colloquially known as farming (replaying the same quests or raids to earn xp and gold for things I actually want) but here in Cantr I am literally farming just to start my story, you know?
I know, I know, it's the same old story, same old whine, but it just seems like until you're 30 you spend mostly a lot of time waiting on older people, or you break laws and steal things.

And what did some of those old people do? Some of them MADE the cars before there were cars to steal. Some of those old people by default "inherited" the cars for living so long. It depends.

This, I agree with 100%.

But as for your other points, they don't apply across the board. In every case it depends on the town, and the leader, and what kind of impact your char has on the community.

Not to say there aren't a depressing number of towns without any kind of sense of community, or with leaders who take zero interest in people as people, or some so ineffective and neglectful that your char can't help but be grateful to find a place where they can at least be reliably offered jobs and paid a decent daily rate for their work. But that may be more of a discussion for here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=27079

I feel like everyone who's been abusing the radio as of late should have their radio privileges stripped. It's barely even in-character anymore, it's just players being trolls. So frustrating.

Slippery slope, though. Lots of characters are played as trolls.

The main thing I'm taking away from listening in is that more Cantrians need to learn not to feed them.

I make a point to ignore anyone on the radio when they're obviously trying to provoke a reaction, but this is ridiculous -.- Even if lots of characters -are- played as trolls, I feel as of the game would benefit from their being banned from using the radio. The characters could still RP as trolls if they so wanted, they just wouldn't be able to pollute the radio and make it difficult for others.

I just don't see anything like that ever being made a rule, it'd mean even more of a workload for the PD, even discounting the number of judgement calls they'd have to make on whether a comment counted as trolling or not.

The radio is an invaluable tool, the way I see it having to filter out a lot of nonsense is a small price to pay for taking advantage of it. And radio messages as a whole are easy to filter out even if the IC solution of just stepping away for it or changing the frequency isn't an option.

Setting up more repeaters or using codes is also an option for distraction free communications that I wish more towns would make use of.

Seeing internet-culture related things (Like old trends/memes/sayings from 4chan) being broadcast on the radio though surely is worth something.

I highly doubt anyone using the radio lately to "troll" (and i hate that word IG too) plays a character where that makes sense to act that way.

Exactly.

But what if I have a character who needs to be by the radio to hear an important message, but they have to step away because I, as a player, am sick of people using the radio -just- to annoy other people?

I'm saying that the radio has, as of late, been disruptive to the game, and that ought to be brought to a stop.

See, I think this is the reason we're disagreeing here. Most of what goes out on the radio is annoying, but I don't personally find it a chore or all that time consuming to skim through. At least nowhere near the point I'd have it effect my character's actions...they're annoyed too but if they're listening in for a good enough reason they're not going to just up and throw in the towel because someone's being stupid.

Maybe skimming youtube comments has inured me to idiots, I don't know.

Are there a lot of public-access transmitters out there? My characters haven't bumped into them so far. It makes me wonder, where are the people who do dumb stuff on the radio broadcasting from? Is there nobody on their end who can tell them, "Hey, stop doing that"? Or do they have private radios...?

Strip their radio privs? Just lock their accounts. This is supposed to be a serious game.

Well, they're not breaking any rules, but sure, if they not RPing to your standards or you find them personally annoying I agree they should be banned. I'd just like to extend this rule to people who don't take the game seriously enough to type correctly, or to anyone who's ever admitted, even just inside their own hearts, to having fun while playing this extremely serious game.

e: what's equally disruptive and annoying are the players repeatedly screaming SHUT UP SHUT UUUUP into their radios as if they think that's going to accomplish anything other than escalating things and getting even more responses. Ban them too, please. We don't need any other players in this game to have a good time, the three of us remaining can just sit back and watch those project percentages slowly creep up and go awwww yeah, now this is a good time.
