Re: Things that annoy or puzzle you about Cantr
This constant "hey I wasn't near the radio" nonsense really needs to stop. I'm already tired of reporting it. A name hasn't been on the radio in a long time, their death is announced and suddenly you're curious how they are?
It's so frustrating. People everywhere work around this, why do people feel they can bend this rule just because it can't be proven? You miss the radio message, too bad for you.

I was just coming here to mention that exact thing. You're not being as subtle as you think you are, people!
Also I recently heard someone on the radio trying to imply that two characters had the same player because they were awake at similar times. Which just would make no sense IC.

I took it that she was suggesting they were associates. Like the one was awake then to distract from their colleague's predicament.Marian wrote:Also I recently heard someone on the radio trying to imply that two characters had the same player because they were awake at similar times. That wasn't how I read it, but I'm not sure how much detail I can get into. And it was a minor thing either way, but just stuck out to me as unnecessary at the time, and came to mind again with the radio talk here.

Sorry for the double post, but if I complained about the other thing it's only fair to complain about this since it's a lot more blatant: characters speaking and acting IC on the OOC knowledge that players can have multiple chars. Not even trying to be subtle about it.

Let me tell you: I have never been much a fan of radio ID before, but right now? Hooo buddy, something needs to be done. Thing is damn near useless when you can't even tell gender or age (although I don't always want to perpetuate the stigma 20somethings sometimes have). But even in civil conversation it's hard and tiresome to be like "wait who just said x" -repeatedly-. And when there's a ruckus? Forget about it.

That's because people assume that others can tell who's speaking. Sorry, but your manner of speaking isn't as unique as you believe it to be. It's good to specify your characters name and whom they are trying to address.

Half the time anyone's on the radio it sounds like the player and not the character, whether it's to express annoyance or be a troll. It's good to ask yourself why your character is about to send a message on the radio. Tell-tale signs are misspellings and saying things like "didn't you see what they said", and responding within seconds after the previous message. If things get heated in the game, I always make it a point to only respond once every 10 minutes.
Oh and don't shrug on the radio pls.

This! I was face-palming when I saw that, but a lot had happened since so it seemed kind of pointless to say something snarky.

IC problems, my friends, IC problems. People can meet in person, use private channels, use codes. All the background noise and anonymity just goes with the territory. The radio is basically the internet back before Facebook.

It was unrelated to the rest of my post, by the way. I just thought it was cute.

Yes, I know. And I agree. Radio or not, I think half the time when characters get angry in this game it's more the player getting angry than the char deliberately being RPed that way, and I know I've been guilty of that too. Some time to sit back and remind yourself this is a slow paced game and it's okay to take your time to craft the response your character would have instead of typing up the first thing that comes to mind does wonders. Fast, heat of the moment responses take away the opportunity for good emotes, too.

I hate when one player totally ruins the game for other players and makes them quit the game.
And then brags about the char doing it.

It might be useful to have your personal definition of 'totally ruining the game' here. I don't recall anyone bragging about making people quit.
And do you mean its the player ruining the game for you, or their char? Because you do realize there's a pretty big difference?

Specific details might turn that into a flame and blame game.

If you're being harassed by another player, email or message the PD. If it's another character ruining the game for you, the player, because of what's going on between characters in the game world... There's really not much you can do there if no rules are being broken. Step back, take a deep breath, and step away from the game for a bit until you're feeling better.
