Help! Need some guidelines on how the forum works.
Ok everyone. Now you must know I am new to the forum and to the game itself. I`ve read the rules posted on the general discussion page, but I still do not understand all that applies on this forum. Could you help me out?
1) What is the 4 days rule?
2) I have not seen anyone explicitly speaking about something that happened IC unless it`s a funny quote or in the "I am thread". Is this a rule, or just some sort of preference?
3) Is there a search engine for the forum? I was trying to find this things out on the forum but couldn`t.
4) Is it allowed to a new player to post a "how do I do that" on the forum? It makes obvious whom its characters are?
5) Is there another post of Rules beside this one? viewtopic.php?f=1&t=25244
Thank you guys! Having a lot of fun so far RPing with you guys on the game.

1. Straight from wiki: It is not allowed to discuss events Out Of Character with other players that might influence any ongoing action. Even concluded events such as character deaths may not be discussed OOC in the forums, irc, or private communications for a minimum of Four days. This is known as the Four Day Rule.
2. Because of 4 day rule we cannot speak them unless 4 day has passed. Myself I have seen discussion about IC stuff on the past (like about on radio, newspawns thieves etc) And now days too but maybe now there isn't much going on, not sure.
3. Yeah, there's one but it's hard to find
It's on top next to private messages on same tab as your private settings (Search or something like that on english version)
4. Others have done so too so I guess it's not forbidden as long as you are careful with 4 day rule. So feel free to ask for help!
5. Have to admit that's only post about forum rules I know

About the second and fourth questions, some people are fine with giving their characters away, and some prefer not to, it's just a personal choice. But keep in mind that, even if it's been four days, sometimes a situation still shouldn't be discussed, if it's still not resolved it's considered an ongoing event. You just have to use common sense about things like that and remember that even if you're fine with discussing your own characters' actions in detail, other people might not appreciate you discussing theirs...again, a lot depends on the situation, so just use common sense.

As a new player, it can be really tempting to want to discuss your chars with other players. There’s no rule against it, as long as you do not coordinate or plan any gameplay (not even to ask someone to log in!), nor discuss any ongoing events.
However, you should be careful about revealing your chars, and don’t rush into it. The game is most enjoyable as an immersive experience, and it’s easier to maintain that when the other players are anonymous.
If you feel you have a situation that is confusing with respect to the rules, it’s a good idea to send a message to PD, or pm a PD member in this forum with your questions. They are here to help. Here is the wiki page on game rules: http://wiki.cantr.net/index.php/Game_Rules

Some further advice: I personally don't discuss combat unless everyone involved is dead. Those situations are rarely resolved, since they might come up years later and if OOC confirmations or denials exist, it can be difficult to form an objective (or subjective, rather
) IC opinion.

Same here, and that's one of the things I meant by common sense. Major things like that with a lot of emotion involved tend to stick in people's craws if their char or their friends' are effected, and when people are upset I think the line between IC and OOC does become blurred occasionally, even if it's just subconsciously or in a way that cant' really be proved.

As some further advice, if you have characters that travel a lot, it may be a good idea not to reveal more than one of them. It gets awkward if you run into yourself and people know both characters are the same player, even if you do everything according to the rules and handle yourself well, especially in high-stakes situation. It's also kinda weird when people talk about one of your characters around one of your other ones when they know you're the same person. This might be more awkward for me than for the average player, since I play a high-profile villain, but it is sort of annoying, and I end up wishing I'd played my cards closer to my chest. It's very tempting to discuss funny or otherwise noteworthy things that happen to you with other players you like, but yeah, there are downsides. So exercise caution!

You sock-thieving b*editted*
Like most forums, always wise to lurk for a while, see how the atmosphere is. Sure, I out some of my characters ..... once their personality is fairly set, and they're in a decent position. Someone wants to come at them, OOC, for something another char did, well. Difficult to prove, but happy to make it more difficult for them. Young newspawn? Easy to run out of town, or threaten, or make their life hard.
But if you need to, or want to know something, search the forums, ask in character, or ask on the forums. There's some parts of the game that are just mindbogglingly unintuitive, and easier to ask then learn first hand.

You say villain, but I think celebrity is more accurate.

Another word of advice: It's best to not share who your characters are with others. All too often, knowing which player plays a character - and your opinion of their other characters - can often color how you interact with their other characters in the game. It's best to treat each interaction as character-to-character.

I suspect this is less of an issue for those of us who wasted our youth RPing, or have ever been seriously info writing. If it's second nature for you to really get inside a character's head and just let them do what they do, this isn't such a problem. But it's up to you to figure this kind of thing out about yourself and do the responsible thing if needed. And of course, when if you know you can be objective, it may not always be wise to make the same assumptions about everyone else.
You're eventually going to figure out who plays a lot of characters, so it's a situation you'll be dealing with, one way or another. It's inevitable in such a small community if you pay attention to people's posts, and once you figure out one, you often can't help but pick out others just because of similarities in how they're RPed, typing style, or things like that.
