All the more reason to leave. I guess it depends on the char, but anyone can get pushed too far, and eventually I'd think if mine realized these people who didn't even consider them human were still depending on their work and cooperation, they'd do everything in their power to deny them both. Even being cut down on the road would be a satisfying way of giving them the middle finger, because at least it was a choice they were making on their own. So what Moonflame said, basically. :D

And it's just natural selection that all these hostile, badly run towns will eventually die out. This isn't real life where dictators can treat life as cheap, in Cantr the presence of every active character makes a huge difference in a town...whether they're killing people or driving them off, they're hurting themselves as much as their victim.

It's towns like that, that made this thread necessary http://forum.cantr.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=27079

Want to drive away characters with crazy, wild stuff? Sure, that could be fun. Drive away players by being dull and hateful? Not so much fun for anyone.

Exactly. And I know we're all RP purists here, but at the end of the day, Cantr is still a game. If one of mine is in a situation where other characters, or even players, are causing the enjoyment levels to plunge into the negatives, then I'm going to find a way to change that situation. It's already hard enough to excuse wasting so much time every day interacting with characters I enjoy...but to do so with ones that are actively and consistently making me bored, frustrated, or annoyed is madness.

At this point in my Cantr career I am so over even bothering with any town too dumb to realize that awake people are the rarest and most valuable resource in the game. Overbearing, hostile laws are bad enough, but stifling RP and activity? Screw that. I'm not even humoring those towns any more and neither are my characters, I just take my ball and go elsewhere to find people more interested in actually playing the game.

It puzzles me how many people seem to not know about NDS or how it works. I find myself having to explain this repeatedly to old characters. :?: :?: :?:

*has no idea what NDS stands for* Can you enlighten me, before I grow old and am twice as embarrassed to ask?

Near death state.
http://wiki.cantr.net/index.php/Near_death_state

Me: Hello. We're robbing you. As such, we've given you a fatal wound, but don't worry, we'll heal you once we break your lock.
Victim: Whoa! What are you doing? Stop breaking my lock!
Me: *patiently explains how NDS works*
Victim: Go away!
Me: But if we leave, you'll die in three days.
Victim: If you agree to leave, I'll give you some of my stuff.
Me: But, uh, you can't pick anything up, and besides, if we don't break in and heal you, you'll die.
Victim: FUCK YOU STOP BREAKING MY LOCK
Me: ????

I can sort of understand if IC they still want to be as far away from their attackers as possible despite their wound, but at that point rather than asking after my lock It sounds much more fun to either play unconscious or be screaming, clutching some cloth to the wound or helplessly watching my sword arm that's lying a meter or two away.

These people aren't even really roleplaying. They just seem really confused about what's going on.

Being a bit of a mechanics monkey, I would like to see, personally, how much can be done in NDS. Reading is one thing, experiencing is another.

But, y'know, I don't need to know *that* much :D I'm happy to let it happen organically.

I had a veeeery close shave with death on one character. I learned some interesting things. Like, you can't even push notes if you're too wounded (maybe like >90%?). Also, even after you get out of NDS and spend your three or so days recovering before you can move again, you still can't eat for several days afterwards.

So I'm wondering about something; how are towns spawned? Theoretically, they must have begun somewhere, but if it was a place that had never been inhabited before, it would have been a bit OOC to have pre-built structures, unless we're claiming ancient pre-cursors.

Locations start off completely empty of anything human made. There are a lot of locations that are still completely empty.

How does that work? You get to a location and the building, vehicles, and objects pages are just completely empty? Are they spawned as needed or based on a system/map already in place?

I've been through a few empty areas on Fu. You have your resources tab, as usual, but nothing else exists.
