What.

Fyi, it's culture in the place I think you're talking about, with certain behaviours. And sort of breaks the four day rule, though the people you're upset at likely don't read this forum so eh.

Somewhere, someone is annoyed at someone else for some reason!

I know you're talking about one of my characters. Quit breaking the four day rule!

But I really am curious now about this town where it's an actual part of the culture that people get punished for being awake. Sounds like a fun an exciting place to (not) RP.

I'm not upset. Just confused. It seems like weird behavior IC or not.

People don't get punished for being awake, they get asked to stop certain behaviours in certain places. All other rp is encouraged.

I've actually had a character imprisoned for "being too noisy" and they were told in no uncertain terms to "quieten down" - essentially had a character a year or two ago that would periodically throw out 3-4 solo emotes a day in addition to chatting with other people when they were awake, etc. - nothing dramatic, no drama - and was told they were irritating to people who had to keep checking their page after names lit up. After awhile, I was so discouraged playing in that place (but had no alternative at the time to go elsewhere with that character) that I just had the character give up and sleep to death. I think the whole town slept itself to death over the next couple of months.

I can only imagine what it's like for new players.

It isn't that bad actually. :D My third character, created after playing Cantr for about 10 days, ended up in a place like that. For me it just made the game more interesting. You wake up and you do not know what to expect: Is the character in prison? Is the character in trouble again? :D And my character's personality has changed under the infulence of the whole town in an unexpected way, so now I have a character which keeps surprising me. I think it is the best experience for me as a new player: having a character which I do not control any more.

Just die already. Its to that point. Where the sleepy town leader just needs to keel over and do the masses a favor. Please. :P

Couldn't you have walked out? And come back later for sweet revenge? Or at least some good natured gloating.

I've let some of my newspawns whither away and die before from bad luck in spawn locals in the past, but never again. My characters aim to enjoy their lives and won't let the disapproval of the undead hordes bring them down.

And really, if I had a sleepy old char with lots of keys, I don't know whether I'd consider it the wisest thing to be a jerk to the awake ones running around actually doing things. Newspawns don't stay helpless and empty-handed forever, why go out of your way to give them a motive to come back later and cause trouble you know you and your dying town won't be awake enough to deal with.

Oh right, grumpiness and greed. That old dragon nature that drives the game, even if it's right into the ground.

People who assume any newspawn doing anything out of the ordinary must be a suicidal newspawn thief and attack and kill or imprison them without even bothering to say anything to them.

And yeah, of all my characters, at least a third of them have walked out of their spawn towns. A few more were fortune enough to get rides.

Or people who automatically assume anyone in their twenties who has nice things must be a thief.

Though maybe that's one for the newspawn thread.

Envy and suspicion would be a perfectly acceptable emotions to play in a society simulator, especially since there are so many ways to get wealth. I don't see why this should be annoying or puzzling.

Half the time I suspect it's an OOC thing, though. A 29 year old in a car is assumed to be suspicious, and usually not based on any IC experience. Just like how everyone somehow just knows a newspawn who behaves erratically is suicidal, when their character may not have ever seen that happen themselves, or at least not enough to recognize a pattern there.

I kind of wish that the starting age were 18 and not 20 because of things like that.
