Re: OOC shenanigans
One more OOC reason why some of my characters don't travel within Treefeather --- dyslexia.

Re: OOC shenanigans
Personally, I've found the redundancy of the names more confusing than the names themselves. Klojt, Klojt Mountains South, Klojt Mountains North, Klojt Mountains East, Klojt Mountains West, Klojt Mountains I'mNotEvenLookingAtAMapAnymore…
Other offenders in that area would be Pok (Harbor and desert[s]), Baaak, Krif and Zhift, and Seatown.

The worst ones are the ones whose direction indicators aren't even in any sensible direction related to the indicator. Like calling "south" the one on the north side...

No, the worst are the Pok Southern mountains. Because theres them, then Pok Southern mountains east, Pok Southern mountains south, etc, on top of the already Pok mountains group. Everytime I get a character up in there I get lose and die.

True to the whole "north being on the right side of the map" thing- the people of Cantr have no sense of direction.

Re: OOC shenanigans
I’ve a char who spawned shortly before dynamic naming of towns was introduced. She’d left, and subsequently lost all sense of direction. Nearly 200 years later, she still has not been able to figure out in exactly which town she spawned.
The most confusing names I’ve seen are on Omeo. I had a char working on roads in the mountains, and it was terribly difficult to figure them out. She eventually got lost, and starved to death trying to find her way back home (Izwinite, Kalabok!)
Dynamic naming is a really nice feature, not least because we can replace names to help us remember, and which are shorter. But I really like a lot of the old names, and I wish there was a way to access them still, especially for the larger islands like Fu.

Re: OOC shenanigans
When I was travelling a very big island, without map, aftere a while I ended up arriving at locations that I'd named NW of NNW of NW of N of Wood place. So, I had no clue where I was, but I'll be damned if I couldn't beeline back to the wood!

Re: OOC shenanigans
I just name them "dumb" or "empty" usually, because that's what 90% of the locations in this game are.

Re: OOC shenanigans
But those names are not CRB or even OOC. They only exist within Cantr.

I think ...

Re: OOC shenanigans
It was an OOC reason for not liking to travel in certain areas.
