I never said you couldn't rant about it here. Just don't expect the behavior to change if it isn't addressed. :P But seriously, if someone is bending/breaking the rules with one char, they're likely doing the same with other chars and should be informed by PD that it's a no-no.

The "ooc: oops i mean the not teh" is annoying but I'm willing to ignore it if it's only occasional. If someone keeps disrupting with OOC posts I'd not want to put up with it for long.

I was responding to Spillages actually, probably should have quoted them.

As far as correcting types, that's one case at least where I rarely see OOC corrections anymore. There's a lot of *correctedword or just the old *coughs* or *clears throat* "Whoops I meant to say..." standby, if it's something unclear or if somebody's phone makes them say something completely nonsensical and random.

And I see quite a few people just really getting into the spirit of playing from a phone and just typing whatever in all lowercase and no punctuation so I think the playerbase in general is not as exacting as it used to be before phone posting was a common thing.

Actually, I mostly use that section for keeping track of positions, ranks, titles, etc., that a character has. Sometimes I'll note down where they spawned, or where they originally met my character, and include notable events. I don't do it for everyone, but I like to have a quick reference guide for interactions.

I have one character with a good memory for faces. (much better than my own memory for names), so he remembers everyone's name and where everyone spawned, since he travels a lot. It's useful when showing up again in one city and someone you met somewhere else is there too, and you don't want to accidentally act like they live there.
Many of my other chars, though, don't travel much or meet enough people to worry about it. Generally ther'es a small enough number of them that I can do the remembering myself.

People trying to trade who haven't even the slightest understanding of economics. People who don't know what supply and demand is, and wonder why they keep being overstocked on some resources and keep being out of others.

I have a character like this, but it's a legitimate character choice. He is more interested in helping others out than in actually making profit, so he doesn't bother making calculations. As a result, he's usually broke.

I love the people that keep their local resources and don't trade for things they don't have. Wonder why it's so empty here?

People who just slavishly stick to the day of work and won't consider anything else just bewilder me. It's a good baseline to start with but there are other, more important factors too.

It wasn't as much of a problem before towns started organising their trade rates (like You Know Where). I think it's an OOC influence on many including myself. I often remind myself my characters don't know that there is a better option.

Also this. When it comes to trading, the characters that know what they are doing are either trained to know how, or have witnessed enough trades to understand.

I think many players simply don't want to deal with haggling, etc. DoW is just easy. I don't mind it as a baseline, though. Chars rarely understand supply and demand, or travel costs. "Oh, you sailed for 4 years to get those ultra rare gems that no one on this island has? Well, they're gathered at X rate so that's all I'll pay for them."

My annoyance: newspawn poachers. It's no wonder small towns struggle. As soon as you get a few solid chars spawned somewhere, outsiders show up and go out of their way to convince them to leave. I'm not talking about sleepy towns either. I wouldn't blame any char for jumping at the first opportunity if the town they spawned into was ignoring them.

Yeah, and then they get miffed when people refuse to sell them resources at those rates, heh.

I'd think supply and demand would be easy. 'We don't have this greatly desired resource, we can't spare anyone to go gathering it...wait this guy has brought it our doorstep and only wants local resources we never touch anymore because the previous leader left hundreds of kilos in storage? Fill the hold to the brim with this useless stuff and hope he turns it into a regular route!'

As for newspawn poaching, I've been on all three sides of that scenario. People are the most valuable resource in the game. Of course there are those who will be trying to recruit them wherever they can, and if there's nothing keeping them in place, that's often just a failing on the town's part.

I personally make it a point to say those really mean and nasty comments to their faces, which probably explains a lot about my characters' relationships with authority figures in this game...

As for newspawn poaching, you can't really blame newspawns for choosing to leave if a better opportunity comes along. They don't belong to you, you know. I agree with Marian. If newspawns leave a town because travelers seem more exciting, maybe the problem is that the town isn't exciting enough.

And now I understand the term "newspawn poaching".
