Cantr sure is plagued by mopey people who frown and sigh a lot and expect people they barely know to care deeply about things they've never actually bothered to explain. Dealing with this with, what, a sold 60% of my characters now?

My pet peeve is people who cry about people dying. Sure, it's realistic in real life but considering that someone dies in Cantr every other day it's kind of tiresome to see everyone depressed all the time. Overall people tend to put a lot of effort into the griefing process, although none will ever top that one beloved town leader. Live broadcasted on the radio and all, and then a whole five day "losing her marbles" baby phase afterwards. At least she fell asleep afterwards. With the keys.

What a coincidence! I think I read a log of that recently. And yes, it was equal parts hilarious and annoying.

Understandable if a character needs to grieve but disrupting an entire town for days just to suck up the spotlight for yourself is bad enough without even getting into radio shenanigans.

Dramatic suicide attempts are another pet peeve of mine. If you want to kill your char, just do it. Don't go for this transparent attention-grabbing thing where you obviously have no intention of it, but just want to get everyone all worked up and begging you not to.
Though even in this case a lot of the blame goes to the chars who enable that kind of behavior.

Seriously. People have made more of a big deal and spent more time wailing about a virtual character who hadn't said anything in game-years and obviously their player was no longer interested in playing that character... than most people I've seen IRL dealing with actual people dying. Especially egregious when a game-year is only twenty days.

I know there's a more recent situation of dramatic over the top grief going on with another character elsewhere, but this is the one I assumed with 'lost her marbles baby phase', do I have it right?
Not going to post the whole thing, but it goes on like this. (And not going to put it in the Funny IC quotes thread, because IMHO that would be enabling.)
Anyway, I feel like dramatic displays as a whole make more sense with a sudden death. A long term sleeper is the equivalent of someone in a coma, realistically their loss is something people would come to terms with long before it happens.
Ivy says: "*her smile starts to fade at his words though she quickly seems to smile again, nodding* Ivy.. love tacos. *she says as she rocks back and forth in front of the window, her eyes seeming to look at everything she can see from the window*"
Ivy says: "*she tilts her head slightly at the sound of her name, her brows furrowed slightly though at the question* Ivy go for walk. "
Ivy says: "*she continues to walk further into the water, her fingers grazing over the surface of the water before she giggles and falls backwards into the water, a soft giggle escapes her*"
Ivy says: "Should swim. *she says though doesn't seem to direct it at anyone specifically though she smiles at Seth's comment and shakes her head lightly* Slow. Ivy wins. "

Riiiight... I've seen an incredibly high number of individuals with mental illnesses being portrayed in the game, many of them ... badly. It seems like a lot of the time, someone thought that playing such a character would be "cool" somehow, without regard to anything resembling the reality of that sort of illness. It's misinformed at best, "Hollywood mental illnesses", and insulting or even triggering at worst.

People with reaaaallly insultingly stereotypical/poorly portrayed mental illnesses? Yup, toss one more onto the pet peeve pile for me.
But a couple of my chars have interacted with the character in the quote, they're not normally like that. As near as I can figure from the note they just regressed to a baby phase, because sadness. (what do you mean Cantrians don't have a baby phase, don't tell me that, shut up)

Uh, EXCUSE ME, what's a baby?
My pet peeve is people who jump on ANYTHING they deem slightly inconsistent with the game world and demand to know what that is.

I admit I do that sometimes, but it's more of a gentle prodding thing unless someone going really overboard with the OOC references. (guy singing about Colorado on the radio, I'm looking at you)
Also I admit I just like to watch people scramble to come up with IG explanations for stuff.

One of my characters major traits devloped after someone IG said in passing "its like magic" and three people were like WHATS mAGIC?! Which annoyed me, so my not so rounded character chimed in with "what's air, why does corn grow up and not across, and more random philosophical unanswerable questions just to make the lot forget about berating the poor youngin about magic.

What kind of thief breaks the lock, steals the engine and then leaves the car?

Someone with some other type of vehicle who just can't be bothered to find some magnesium or rubber to make their own engine? *Shrugs*

Terrible victims. Being boring is one thing, but being boring and then also essentially forcing me to kill you so I don't look like a complete idiot is annoying. I prefer not to go around murdering people who don't deserve it, but if you do something suicidally stupid because you can't handle being mildly inconvenienced, don't think I won't follow through.

Always been too many boring, humorless chars in this game. Mine would have cherished that mug forever and enjoyed sharing the story of how they got it
