I think it is great that some places can become totally deserted...but how does it function when nobody hunts animals? Can they grow forever, or do they have some kind of a limit?

In the Swedish area it is not uncommon to see 30+ gorillas...and that is quite a huge threat to an area where noone has figured out how to make iron yet...

They can grow without limit I'm pretty sure, except for the occasional 'too many animals' intervention by the gods. And by occasionally I think I mean once, or maybe twice.

Perhaps there should be some kind of system, regulating the animals. IRL predators keep the smallers animals numbers down and if the predators food sources grow too small they starve to death themselves...

I don't know anything about programming, but it feels like it wouldn't be so very hard to have some kind of basic regulation when it comes to animals.
I think a lot of newbies in the new areas give the game up if they spawn characters who are all killed by wild animals before they can even meet other people...

I agree, Pirog :) .... We'll implement that sometime. But we have many things on our list atm ...

Well, it's also irratating when you spawn in an area with no animals like the new island I spawned on about a Cantr year ago. It makes productivity rather difficult. :(

Considering that the tech-tree has been modified so that you basically can't make anything without first getting some bone tools...that would be bad.

Can't find any bunnies to punch out?

You could try a fishing spear. It's a weapon, and I think you can make it with no bone-based tools. Then you can kill a bigger animal.

Industriallist, there are NO animals. I can make a little weapon, no big deal, but to make other useful things I need a animal and I have traveled to about 4 or 5 different towns on this island and still NO animals!

You must be on a location that is not yet finished with 'decorating'. We're working on it as fast as we can - and pretty fast, actually ;) ... But players travel faster than we can develop this, unfortunately. I'm now checking on my map where animals are missing ...

wow, so it's no longer people-centric spawning, then?

Is it in fact possible to spawn ANYWHERE?

I think that's still the case. Usually. I imagine there's some loophole to allow population of new lands...right?

In some of the smaller language-zones they use spawn points still.

No, but if some people sail to new islands, people start spawning there ...
