Re: Things that annoy or puzzle you about Cantr
What really puzzles/annoys me is the copying of the custom descriptions. Char X has a certain outfit, and char Y has almost the same outfit, with very minor differences. Oh, and they happen to have the same, very specific interests, too! Does anyone else copy their custom descriptions & goals between their characters? Sounds extremely lazy and lame to me. Aren't our characters supposed to be separate and distinct individuals? Perhaps I'm just overthinking it, and it's just an issue of lack of creativity & originality.
Talking of which.... something else that gets to me about the use of the custom descriptions is how sloppy some of them are. This is a text based game, and the custom descriptions are there for us to put our own touch to the items we create through the use of the language. Why not use it well? It's so irritating to see custom descriptions full of grammar mistakes. Something badly written despite that extra time/thought taken to create it won't look good to me at all.

This is clearly just an issue of taste. It would thrill and amuse me if one of my characters found one that much like themselves, and if I spawned one in a place with a character I really like I'd probably want to join them. Haven't some people complained before when people were all such their own people that there was no sense of culture between them? But then I suppose what you're complain about now is too far in the opposite direction? What about cultures where it's a virtue to get lost in the crowd? What about groups of friends that revel in how alike they are?

I am talking about players doing this between their own characters, not about a char belonging to someone else copying what they see on someone else's char. Imitation and flattery and all that, if someone else did it, but that's not what I'm mentioning here.

I interpreted Chroma's post as meaning two character who have never met one another and are presumably played by the same player? I wouldn't mind that stuff if it wasn't so confusing O_o

I see that I completely misunderstood your post, Chroma Key. Even with it bolded I still get the same idea, but I understand now that' you've explained. Thank you for that.

I guess I could have said "between their own characters" to make it clearer, but I thought that was obvious. Sorry about the confusion.
Also, "separate and distinct individuals" was a direct quote from the rules (relating to our own chars), but I should have known better than expecting that to be recognised.

Oh, I recognized the direct quote, but I always interpreted that bit of the capitol rule to be referring not only to our own characters but to all characters, so we wouldn't copy our real-life friend's characters (without them having their own distinct reasons to) either. So I didn't get the connection between the quote and the "their own" characters until you further explained that.
I am not always a smart person (to almost no one's surprise).

I've never noticed anyone recycling custom descriptions. That's lame. There are so many different variations, why would anyone want to repeat the same ones?

I have a dream of playing a character that copies all of Louisa's clothes and sells them as their own.

My point exactly. When it extends to the char desc as well as life goals, it's just.... meh.

Well, I did make one of my new chars a lot like one of my old ones, because I really really enjoyed playing that char. But that's not at the same moment in time. I'd hate having two exactly the same chars at any one moment.
Don't remember where I was - I realized life was a game - The more seriously I took things - The harder the rules became

I think that's fair, I still think about some of the my dead chars time to time and even opening new chars with their names in the future. What mostly puts me down is seeing almost totally same characters of the experienced players. Of course, I don't find myself uber creative and everyone can have common things between their own chars since they all have a connection with their owners and everyone can make mistakes too. But if one is B other can be P by still being similar, yet different. If your B has a good life your A doesn't have to behave just like that to achieve his/her goals, or if one is a pain in a certain way other can be annoying in a different way. I admire the ones that make my chars smile, angry, excited, happy and bored by following a balance and I appreciate the silent workers too. But maybe I'm the only grumpy one, probably people don't mind interacting with the same behaviour and the ones deal with them don't mind that as long as they can have their main desires fulfilled too.
I became insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity.

First thing, I have no idea who you even play, so if you've been taking this as some kind of personal comment on your characters, please don't. And it's great that you take the time to do all that IC, but not everyone does. I guarantee that 'Yep, I sure did emote this complicated process... *waves hand vaguely* ...which I won't go into detail on, step by step...behind closed doors...alone. You'll just have to trust me on this. >.>' is more common than you think.
Object descriptions shouldn't mention additional materials which are not used for manufacturing the object (for example bone earrings can't have anything about gold or iron in their description).
But this is the thing that has always gotten to me the most, and what started this whole thing. You have no idea how much I wish we could get that tagging system implemented. If my character is holding a cotton dress, and a couple of silk ribbons, and a handful of diamonds, and something I could pretend would act as a red dye, why can't I combine those things to make that sparkly red dress with the ribbons she's always wanted? No one would be able to question whether I'd gone through the correct process because it would all be right there in the tags. I can't even do something as simple as sewing a few bone beads or feathers onto a hide dress, and it frustrates me, and I know it frustrates other people too because I see outfits that really skirt the line on this one a lot, if not ignore it altogether.
