Mongol Horde?
Gathering up a bunch of people on horses and give them bows. Conquer land lot of lands. Wonderful idea yes?

It's really difficult to band people together against something that isn't even a threat (i.e normal village/city people you've never met). Likely end of that scenario is people with cars will band together to catch you and kill you with battle axes and cross bows. Sorry to burst your bubble.
You'd almost be better off just convincing people that you should be their leader, and even that is difficult especially if the current leader isn't bad.. and that's just for one location. For multiple in most cases their combined rulings are the result of alliances or trade agreements rather than violence or force.

It's hard to be the bad guys, but it's so easy to be the good guys pretending everyone else is the bad guys.

And why would you even need to conquer other lands? Are they preventing you from gathering from their infinite resource deposits of things you don't even really need in the first place? Do you not have infinite resource deposits in your own lands? Wouldn't it be more efficient to use those people you recruit to gather them and trade rather than wasting far more time and effort coordinating a war effort with zero practical benefit for yourself even if you win, potential workers and RP killed on both sides, winding up with, at best, the need to spread your forces thin in an inefficient manner that's impossible to govern since the former citizens of all your conquered lands would have been killed or just left or given up and stopped checking their characters?
...I feel a much longer post on the pointlessness of conquest and empires in Cantr coming on but alas, I've spent half the day dealing with an IC situation and now I'm way behind on my work.

Well, without killing it would be a pretty cool idea in underdeveloped areas. I really wish the line between threats and murder wasn't so thin in Cantr. Smart conquerors didn't kill the very people that accumulated all that wealth for them. They made an arrangement. You get us wood, we try not to kill all your cattle. Ta!

I didn't mean to come on down on the idea so negatively, it just happened to tie in to some other thoughts I've been having about large organizations don't ever work in this game.
Agreed that in a primitive area something like this might work--horses are better than cars, after all, with only a tiny fraction of the cost. Some early adopters probably will wreak havoc until more towns get organized enough to combat them--but then there's really no way to avoid the killing with the idea in the OP. And in a sparsely populated, primitive area wiping out towns isn't really going to accomplish much but kill any RP or progress in the area.
Maybe if the basic idea was a group of knights or rangers traveling from town to town protecting people or keeping the peace it would go over better. But then again Cantrians tend to reflexively reject that kind of thing...look at something like the United Shield and how benignly it's presented and the way people still flip out over it like they're some kind of usurping conquerors.
And even if an organization starts out successfully, the more towns you work with the greater the chance you'll start running into places that have no choice but to resist you due to the CR. Seen that happen before too, if I can use the United Shield again as an example.

Why need to kill? Why not do a surprise ambush, lock everybody up, ransack the town, break into secret hoards, kidnap the leader, hold leader for ransom, drop them off naked and alone on a remote island, and then rinse and repeat?

But conquering would imply holding the town, not just ransacking it. And either way I could totally take this ultra seriously and pick it all apart just like I did with the OP's suggestion.

One of the common tactics vs Mongol Hordes, or cavalry....
Was to shoot the horse right out from under them.
Horses were also made ineffective through the meteorological conditions in such historical references as the Battle of Agincourt.

Pro tip: you have to kill (or NDS state) the leader as the first thing in order to get the keys to attempt everything else. And good luck locking everybody up. Also kind of impossible to get a ransom after you've already stolen everything not nailed down, now isn't it?
Anyway I'm sure it'd be possible to pull off if you had three people that could be online at once...but getting away with it would be another matter entirely in a civilized area. Much easier in a primitive one, but then there wouldn't be much to gain from it all in the first place.
Now that is just the silliest thing I've ever heard, Friar, how did you convince all the other monks to let you into the monastery?!
Now someone please post more ideas so I can tell you why they're wrong, and bad. I'm on a roll today.

With how many resources people have stockpiled, it's easy to steal a lifetime of riches without anyone ever finding out. It's ridiculous that people can have piles of metal heavier than the entire town population and still insist on people working for four years to earn a bike that was left by someone five real life years ago. Yeah, I hate established towns.

Even better when you realize most of that stockpile came from looting corpses over the years/decades rather than any work on their own part. Eventually the current leader will drop and whoever takes over will indoor an even bigger dragon's...well, more like vulture's hoard.
