Travelling in a group in a vehicle, you reach a town and people get out to hunt. All good, except for the one who, unlike the others, doesn't step straight back into the vehicle!!

I've seen towns before with a note describing a brief history of how it was founded or what its goals are how the current government came into power, I've always wished more of them would do that. Would be a nice conversation starter for people interested in history...many times it seems the people who would actually remember that far back are fast asleep. And Cantrians as a whole don't seem to spend a lot of time dwelling on the past...that's why it's so hard for a town to keep any kind of traditions going past the lifespan of the person actively promoting it.
I'll have characters look around and notice how many buildings and vehicles there are and ask where all the people went sometimes. Seems like it would be a good opening for anyone wanting to chat about the past, but answers usually just amount to a bit of vague shrugging.

Re: Things that annoy or puzzle you about Cantr
Here's my thing that annoys me. This isn't a criticism, nor do I suggest people stop doing it (because I definitely do it myself as well!!).
But emoting with character names, particularly if you're new in town or if there are new people in town.
So many times I have to resist the temptation to enter in names for characters I've seen in emotes. As a player I'm like, god damnit that character is clearly John based on the emote, but unless my character is a mind reader...
Again, I do this as well, and I have no idea how you'd solve it without some kind of @Character twitter-type thing for emotes, or without using the character's personal description, ie *she whispers to the man who has long brown hair and blue eyes*, which is just weird if you've known each other for ages.

A sort of character identifier would actually be really useful for this purpose... Theres' been times when I've emoted at a character whose name I only know through other emotes, and had to decide whether to reveal my technically ooc knowledge for the convenience of others. I think this ought to go on the suggestion forums!

I just name them like normal but stick a question mark there at the end so I know not to have my character refer to them by name until they've been introduced.

Uh, I thought it was common place to put the names you learn through emotes inside brackets or similar so you know at a glance that it's someone your character doesn't yet know the name of, but so they can tell them apart from others 'in their twenties' or whatever should they be interacted with again or speak or something.
I mean, in real life, if you're in a room with say, 3 others and only know the name of one of them, a female, but the two guys are complete strangers who happen to look about the same age, if the female then pats one of the guys on the back, you wouldn't be clueless about which of them that was, would you?
Now, apply that to Cantr...
4664-7.19: (Jack) a man in his twenties says: "Thanks, Mary - it wasn't as difficult as I expected."
4664-7.18: a man in his twenties says: "*he rubs his nose with a groan"
4664-7.18: Mary says: "*she grins, stepping towards Jack to pat him on the back* Well done!"
4664-7.17: a man in his twenties says: "*he picks a flower, holding it up close to his nose and taking a deep sniff...soon sneezing loudly as he inhales some pollen* ACHOO!"
4664-7.15: (Jack) a man in his twenties says: "*he finally finishes making the mountain of vegetable feed and heaves a loud sigh of relief"
It'd be kind of stupid if you then turned to Jack in surprise at the sneeze, or told the other young man that that's a crazy amount of feed, right?

I follow Marians system.
If I have -heard- their name but not really interacted with them, I put a question mark.
If I learned it through an emote... I put 3 question marks. It identifies that I am aware of the uniqueness of the person but my char does not know their name and cannot rp as if he/she does.

I actually tend to name technically unknown people 'John, apparently' until I know them. I sure hope I don't come across any characters with 'apparently' as a last name, though. that will get confusing.
This actually works pretty well at solving the problem being discussed... I get excited about new ideas sometimes, but I guess a dynamic-name-inserting keyword to use with emotes isn't really all that necessary...

Re: Things that annoy or puzzle you about Cantr
Sometimes if I know another person doesn't know the person I'm referring to in an emote and the case is a bit ambiguous, I'll point or include a description in the emote.
As for naming, if I don't know their name for sure, I use a question mark. If I've heard their name but my character doesn't know it (i.e. an emote), then I add (ubn). I keep other identifying information in the parentheses too, like gender or language, just in case. I remember I had a name saved for someone but I referred to the person as a woman when he was in fact a man. That was embarrassing. Hence the m/f tag.

Speaking of naming character, it annoys me that we have that oh so convenient CHDESC button which is a godsend on a phone...yet I still feel compelled to go through the finicky and inconvenient process of surrounding it in a parenthesis afterward.
I just can't do without the parenthesis. And believe me I've tried.

Re: Things that annoy or puzzle you about Cantr
One of my characters is slightly shorter than average. That means 5'9 and does certainly not equal short, yet people have referred to him as the shortish man. He's my third tallest living character (Coventina being the tallest). I've had a character in the past who was 6'2 but only once. Most of my characters tend to be around 5'3. It seems like the most common height in Cantr is 6 foot even.

Re: Things that annoy or puzzle you about Cantr
Mine are usually about 5 foot 9 unless they have a specific description such as tall or short. Some are described as of below/at/above average height, and in that case, average is about 5 foot 10. I think my tallest was about 6 foot 1 and my shortest probably about 5 foot 4.

I don't think it's that common, I rarely see people spelling out there exact heights, and even then when someone is described as six feet tall IRL there's an implied 'give or take a couple inches'.
You know, as opposed to 'I have literally made a passing acquaintance stand against a wall while I busted out the measuring tape like a huge weirdo.'
