Types of characters you'd like to play?

Postby SekoETC » Fri Mar 27, 2015 9:03 am

For sharing unused ideas for characters that you'd like to play, especially if you know you won't get around to it due to deciding not to spawn any more characters.

The witch doctor - would have dark skin and dreadlocks. He would try to develop cures for things other than physical damage, and would give people hide bags that contain "magical" resources and items. He would refuse to wear most regular clothes and dress up in some odd way.

That's the only idea I had in mind at the moment. Just felt like sharing. Hopefully someone else has more ideas.

I think I already did something like this in 2005 (a character called N-Aldwitch or something, which is also my 2005 Cantr Forum account).

But, a character who investigates cures for Sleeping Sickness. Eventually he or she would, of course, discover that stabbing people in an empty locked room seems to make them wake right up! Some wouldn't wake up, and he would take it too far, and come outside and announce to the town that "the test subject failed to be cured" and would need more test subjects.

He would pen down his findings and find clients (usually a distraught lover) and ask them for a lot of iron, steel, diamond or gold to cure their loved one.

Hm...

The cult leader.

I spawned a character for exactly this purpose, but lacking any charisma in RL, and my enthusiasm for the game at an all time low, I starved him off (Krall of Kiii). Be glad he's dead. It wasn't going to be pretty (think Blackrocks with a very strong religious element).

I've always, since almost the beginning, wanted to spawn a con man. Someone who would (somehow, never actually thought of any cons) trick people into giving up their resources and then skip town. Unfortunately, each time I tried, they spawned in really friendly, supportive towns, and my characters grew to be productive, upstanding townspeople.

I want to play a serial killer/pirate.

Might actually have one in the making, so stay tuned ;)

I'm curious, do you have any details about the religion that you can remember? Did you have explanations for Spawn? For the afterlife? That'd have been really interesting.

Make sure you throw them in a cell and give them false hope! Nothing sucks more than a bunch of pirates rocking up into town, killing without RP and leaving.

I know... It's absolutely the worst. I want to make this one really disturbed, and try to make the RP half decent.

The professional slacker.

I always thought it would be an amusing gimmick to make a fully developed, active character, except that they just...never work on a project. Ever.

Just curious on how far they could get in life through the charity...and gullibility...of others alone. And how long it would take their spawn town to catch on to what they were up to.

But then again it would take a lot of time to RP them properly and the whole idea just smacked of effort, so I never did get around to it...

Argh, I hate this. Every single time I want to make an evil character this happens. All those damn friendly, supportive people, ruining my plans! *shakes fist*

I once spawned a char deliberately with no ambition in life. I wanted to see just how far one could get doing nothing but chopping wood. But my humble woodcutter got recruited to supply wood which helped build a galleon. And he sailed off with this quite remarkable crew that iirc included some musicians, a circus performer, and a former prostitute. Their leader revealed himself shortly as a murderous pirate, but this happy crew couldn’t go along with it, so they mutineed, and left the captain ashore, stealing the galleon. My char shared his lack of ambition such that the crew formed an egalitarian collective, and attemped to make him captain. He ofc declined on principle, and later was my only char ever to die of heart failure, but the answer to the question was indeed pretty far.

I think it'd be fun to play an incompetent pirate. To sail into towns, make noise, awkwardly attack a few people, and utterly fail to steal anything or kill anyone before sailing away... Maybe drag a few of them onto a boat and forget to lock it behind them, stuff like that.

I had actually considered the same thing as well - an incompetent pirate. However, I was thinking more along the lines of having them demand all the dung, or all the animal bones, or something else of equal silliness. And when it came time to attack because his/her threats weren't take seriously - well - copper pot, feather pillow or something similar. :D
