What kind of characters do you play far too often?
For me, it's village idiots/illiterate people, tailors, cynical/grumpy people and maybe lesbians.
I've played 36 characters altogether if I counted correctly and three of them were seriously mentally retarded, while two or three were childish and gullible at spawning and have reached normal adult functionality by now. I also played a blind person once.
7 of my characters (including the dead) have worked as professional tailors at least some point in their lives, 4 of these for almost their whole lives. Also I have several characters who make clothes for themselves and other people either for fun or out of necessity.
For a supposedly straight person, I have a surprisingly high amount of gay/bi/bi-curious characters. I often wonder if that says something about me. Like maybe I'm only straight because I was forced into a mould by my Christian mother.
One thing I'm good at is keeping visual appearances varied. I've played brunettes, blondes, redheads, black hair, white hair, bald, bearded vs. can't grow a beard to save their life; dark skin, fair skin, anything in between, and both skinny and fat people. Most of my characters are short but I've also played a couple of tall ones, and many in between.

My female characters always are infantile. My male charakters are unsociable. I try make it in another way but I can't. I don't know why.

Re: Character types you keep repeating?
I looked through my list of a kazillion past characters and common themes are:
-Selflessness(giving this away/donating things when they don't have to, seems these chars are female and always end up prominent citizens or leaders)
-seriously over-noble, dreadfully serious, heterosexual male characters
-characters with some mild form of cleanliness/organization issue, usually tending towards needing to constantly organize resources, with a couple who are borderline ocd when it comes to cleanliness
-inept tailors because they want to be great and take the job but I'm not creative.

Re: Character types you keep repeating?
Pretty varied on the gender and appearances fronts, and no themes on disabilities or intentional quirks.
All of my characters have been mostly or entirely asexual and fairly naive with it (variable within that though - one cottoned onto what others were up to pretty quick, another is still completely oblivious at 40). My living characters are mostly earnest, open, cheerful and friendly - even the 'sociopath' is generally lazily non-confrontational and honest in a blunt sort of way. My characters tend to tidy up projects that have been abandoned and resist the creation of new ones that will be ignored, but that's as much me as them >_<
Three of my four living characters are accidental town leaders - I wake them fairly often so they come across as unlikely to fall asleep with the keys and none of them are obviously unsuited for leadership. They're not rule-the-world ambitious though. Most of my characters are still wearing or died wearing mostly the first item of a given sort of clothing they earned, made or were given. Mostly their trousers have been modified as an excuse to change 'pants' to 'trousers'

I always seem to play polite, feminine males, and more impatient females.
You're entitled to your wrong opinion.

Re: Character types you keep repeating?
Lots of blunt and sarcastic females.
I can't see a pattern with my males. One didn't live long enough to develop a personality other than he was really passive. One had all sorts of self-esteem issues. One is... I dunno anymore, he pretty much lives to feed his two townmates and the ten quadrillion domesticated bushpigs. And Narrator was just Narrator.
I seem to have a thing for funny accents, like the th->s/z and l->r. I ebed hab wud for whed by charagders are sigk.
I will never ever spawn a mute ever again. Now, if somebody comes around and (with my consent of course) roleplays cutting my character's throat or tongue or roleplays something so horrific my character decides never to speak again in fear of accidentally mentioning it, I'll play it through and make that character mute.
Ooh, here's one! When most of my characters die, it's usually preceded by a period of deep depression and then sleep.

Re: Character types you keep repeating?
I usually have a core of well-planned characters with potential arcs that I leave fluid based on their interactions and experience with the world and people. I try not to do extremes, ie extreme sociopath, mentally handicapped or anxious ones, I try to make it subtle and let their progression dictate what traits are exacerbated or lessened.
About a third of my newspawn characters are clueless or ambitious thieves, who, if they survive, decide their future and their personality based on what happens to them. It's partly that I can't think of unique interesting traits for 15 characters and so I do something dramatic to kick the character development into first gear.
I've played Cantr for significant lengths of time about three times now, in 2004/2005, 2009/2010 ish and now. I seem to follow the same pattern each time.
Sorry if this causes too much havoc for your characters, but I hope that it helps keep things interesting in (what I hear is) a slightly stagnating community and in-game story.

Re: Character types you keep repeating?
I have a terrible habit of spawning characters because I had a "brilliant idea" for them... and most of them tend to fall asleep or wander off eventually.
Of the ones I've kept, a good portion of them tend to be either somewhat easily-excited, and/or obsessed with something to do with words (stories, languages, songs...)

My chars are too similar to each other
Or then I have this "bad" char that in the end is just too sweet person to be one...

Re: Character types you keep repeating?
The only recurring theme in my characters is that I can't bring a single one of them to steal or become a criminal or hurt innocent people. That and they're all gay or bisexual (and even the bisexual ones were only put in that situation, they were all intended to be gay or lesbian). As far as personalities go they're all pretty different, some are more serious and mature, some childish though usually in different ways (I have some who are serious but gentle with everyone and some who are serious and very cynical and jerkish, ones who are childish and very shy and some who are childish but not shy at all, or very talkative or flamboyant, and some in-between, one is actually mentally incapacitated from spawning and has an impediment which is the only reason he seems childish - he's actually very intelligent underneath and understands most things), some are very kind and some are real assholes, some would despise each other if they ever met, and a lot of them have different viewpoints on certain things like hunting, how to deal with criminals, or how serious violence is.
Two of them have an inability to feel anger, some are suicidal and some are survivors, I have characters who would lie down and let someone smack them around and just cry about it and characters who would hunt you down and lock you up if you dared touch them. Soldiers, scholars, wanderers, I have characters who will hand anything to anyone they barely know just to be generous, and characters who think everyone is a freeloading moron and don't deserve any of their stuff unless they work for it. I have drunks and hippies and village idiots and vigil antes... Just, not one thief, slaver, pirate or crazy dictator, even the few times I tried, just never works out. Other than that they're pretty varied, it's hectic switching between them when things are actually going on, talk about an emotional roller coaster.
I also try to make my characters a variety of different quirks/disabilities, mute, blind, physical inabilities, allergies, debilitating psychological issues, irrational phobias, injuries that can be used to later cause more disabilities, disorders from bulemia to insomnia to obsessive compulsive disorder and self-mutilation.
