I am currently at 6 characters. Unfortunately I have lost my interest in a lot of the game. I not longer have an interest in spawning more and am actually cutting back further in hopes that by dropping the other ones I have no interest in any longer, I will continue to play the three (maybe four) that I actually do enjoy still. You will see two possibly three more of mine go before long. Know it is nothing against the players I have been playing with near mine, it is just my personal loss of interest in the character itself. They are still around some amazing characters.

After much experimentation over the years I've found that four or maaaybe five seems to be the perfect number. I sometimes wonder if having the cap at fifteen might actually be detrimental to the game in the long run. It's just so easy to create a bunch of characters during a slow period and then as soon as things start happening again you get overwhelmed. I'm not even sure how it's possible to have 15 characters and a job or a family at the same time, unless they're all just sleepworkers.

I know what you mean. I used to play 15. And at that time I was able to, there wasn't much going on in real life for me. I had all the time in the world to play. But now I'm at 6 and even that is too much. Too many things going on and lack of interest is getting in the way. So it's best to drop the ones I'm playing for other people and not having an interest in so that I can focus on those few that I actually enjoy.

I used to always play 12-15 with no issue and people loved my characters. Now I have 5 and two are basically 30yr old simmer chars with no real personality besides an outline yet. One is half and half, and two have thoroughly developed personalities etc. I don't know how I managed it before. Honestly.

I have eight. Three of them are distinctly simmers, two of them are half-and-half, and the other two have distinct personalities and exist pretty much just for roleplay. The half-and-half ones are basically simmers that get involved in town stuff too though not as much as my distinct rping characters.

...and the eighth? :P

I like to think that all of my characters are simmers, I don't consider that mutually exclusive with roleplay, but I have a hard time playing the purely worker bee sorts. Either the RP around them is good enough that they want to get involved, or the lack of RP is bad enough that I feel the need to have them step up a little to fill the void.

I feel the game would be better off if people all decided to cut back. There might be less characters, but quality over quantity. Too many people play half-assed characters while simultaneously playing some really interesting ones that deserve more time.

Of course that is just one way to look at it. Some would argue that simmers are important to the game and I can't diasagree with that.

As long as no one expects the simmers to Rp, and just work like they want to.

I kind of make it a point, that if they don't speak to my characters, then obviously they don't want to interact with mine, therefore I'm a little less giving with my RP. In fact, some has left towns, being part of the RP madness, to a town where they are now just working silently, it all depends on what level of involvement you want your characters to have.

A lot of my simmers are sitting in towns where the RP action is just too interesting not to watch. ::grabs popcorn::

I think you mean Image.

And re: Wiro's post, I just want to say for the record that I have no objection to half-assed chars. Not everyone has be standing in the center of town posting multi-paragraph emotes all the time, and thank God for that.

I have a couple of characters I play that don't speak much, but I do roleplay them...they're just the quiet sort who do their work every day and don't complain much and make a choice to not get involved in drama. But if approached the right way or just pushed far enough they might become more involved.

Even though I don't have much chance to RP either at the moment the two I have now are distinctly different...one is sweet and sensitive and introspective enough that they space out a lot while working and barely notice what's going on around them, and the other just has zero interest in getting chatty with the morons and is always pretty much inwardly rolling their eyes at everyone else.

Turns out the last ones kind of a fun way to play. If someone's being all 'I'll kill myself really I mean it unless you all LOOOOOOOVE meeeeee!' Image or whatever, the character can just reflect my IRL reaction of Image and cheerfully continue on with their life while everyone around them is coming unglued.

Story of many of my characters' lives.

Story of my characters' lives. Except for me it makes me not want to check those characters at all (I do it anyway, if only to punch an animal or one of Ally's characters) because everyone else is a moron. As a result, very few of my characters get involved in any kind of drama at all because my tolerance for it is so low.

Anyway, we've derailed this topic and the last few posts should probably go in the Things That Annoy or Puzzle You About Cantr thread. ;)

The only reason I have more than a small handful of characters is due to the difficulty of finding decent towns to RP in. I'm not a college student any more, I spend a lot of my life working, and I do somewhat resent having to work to find somewhere that even lets me enjoy the game. I prefer my characters to stay where they spawn and try to build that town, but there is only so many sleepy hoarders I can endure.

Whilst I understand why the spawning metrics were changed, I do feel that the game as a whole suffered badly as a result.

Seems like in some cases also timezones affect a lot.. At least for me it seems all are awake when it's night for me and sleep when it's day for me. Naturally best rp is then all are awake... I have 15 chars so not all are affected by that but i surely sometimes feel I have wrong timezone.

And really 15 isn't that much then most people around sleep anyway and I like to help people to build towns and run them so extra help doesn't really seem bad, at least I try to play with all equally.

I'm consistently paired up with people (not characters, mind you--this is entirely a player flaw) that only acknowledge the last two or three things said. They don't bother scrolling down (due to lack of time, I guess) to find out people were talking to them, put time in inventing a story just for them.

I wonder if people know about filters and the ability to search the page (CTRL+F).

Anyway, I figured I should elaborate on my earlier post so now you know.
