Re: Skill drop
It's nothing personal. I don't even know who you play or which one (or how many of them) are gathering olives or how much they had to invest in it or if they're doing it for themselves or for retail. But in the past there were no ladders, so anybody with a ladder is already gathering much faster than they could've in the past.

I'm not taking it personally, so there's no need to make it sound as if I was. I'm mentioning my char as she's the one affected for me (although I know others, too), but the issue here isn't the individual chars but how they are affected, and how those effects have just been dismissed.

Re: Skill drop
I've just reverted the change for the reasons mentioned so far. Please prepare for this to return after an announcement will be made. I can't commit to a single date right now, so expect more information about that soon.
To clarify, if you start projects now they will use the farming skill even after it uses forestry again. That means you can start as many farming projects as you like to collect the olives at the old rate until you have enough of them. I suggest you make them 80 days long which is the maximum, but you can set up more than one project.

I can confirm it's true. I was not sure if it really works that way, but it does. Projects are very loosely coupled with their 'templates', which makes them completely different from, for example, objects. Changes don't affect old projects.
And I can confirm, that it's now reverted, but will eventually happen. I admit it wasn't done alright and this time it will be announced with more details.
It's sad the flaw wasn't noticed earlier, back when olives were almost useless, but when something has to be done, then it's better to be done sooner than later. From players' perspective, there's no good time for any changes that can potentially make anything harder for characters. As I remember, no matter on what time of day or night I've locked the game, I often got questions "why JUST NOW?".
This situation is partially my fault. When Wiro has made this change, he asked me to add a notice to the last announcement, but I've refused, because it was already translated into some languages.
I wanted to add it to the next bigger announcement, because I perceived it as a tiny change. Things like skill changes have sometimes happened in the past and were never treated as something important.
As I side note, please remember that information in the Cantr wiki is not guaranteed to be always correct and up-to-date, except the pages whose editing is restricted.

Did I miss the announcement amidst the last changes (I'm unable to find the announcement) or was it only reverted for olives and not for the rest of fruits? The skill seems to have changed but the project is still called farming.

Re: Skill drop
Which fruit? Grapes and I think apples (I'd need to check) for instance have (both?) been called farming while actually using the forestry skill for as long as I've been playing.

Re: Skill drop
It wasn't any of those, but the wiki says the skill used is foresting also, so I probably was mistaking it with some other fruit when I thought I had "farmed" them before. Thanks, computaertist.
Edit: And yes, apples require foresting too.

Re: Skill drop
To clarify, it uses farming at the moment until the 15th of January. Any projects made before then will still use farming as skill. Any projects made after that will use forestry.
Fruits that grow on trees use forestry.
