Disassemble problems

Postby Shedevil » Sun Dec 21, 2014 2:15 am

I have a character who is trying to disassemble a few tools, and it keeps giving me an error message.
"This object cannot be disassembled."

I tried multiple different tools, to see if it was a fluke, but I get the message for all of them I tried.

I'm unfamiliar with the system. Can you try doing it from the ground and double-check the projects page?

I tried that, as I haven't picked anything up (doesn't give me an option to disassemble if I'm holding it) and I.did double check them. Unless it's in the code where you can't travel and disassemble tools? They are in her truck, just don't know why that would really make a difference.

The character is not working on a project already? I seem to recall an error with that. If all else fails try it again outside a vehicle. Greek might know. Sorry for not being much help.

No, she's not working on anything. I will test it in the next town. Hopefully she gets there with the next tick, as I'm gettingg tired.

Okay, so I can disassemble if they are on the ground, but not if they are on the ground of a vehicle? Is it meant to be like that?

What kind of vehicle? Was this only while travellig or also while in town (inside the vehicle)?

I can disassemble tools in boats and cars, but neither are travelling so I assume it has to do with that.

She is in a pickup, and it wouldn't work while traveling or while she was sitting in town.

Strangely it does appear to be prevented during travel. That doesn't explain why you couldn't start it while in town. Could you double-check the latter when the opportunity arises? Thanks so far.

The bug (or at least one of them) is that it won't let you start the project while on the road. I tested and confirmed as much.

I've seen that too, a message warning an object cannot be destroyed but click continue and it turns out it can. Not every object allows you to though.

Drop the object before attempting the disassemble project, then pick it back up! It helps to be stationary, IIRC when in a vehicle you need to stop and start the project. Once created i had no problems working on it, or pausing work to do a second project or anything.

It's impossible to start disassembling project in a travelling vehicle, because it might mean disassembling its engine when driving.

But, at the same time, it's possible to start engine disassembling, then start driving and finish the work in the middle of the road. I don't know what happens then. Don't try it at home. :D
So this limitation is not very efficient. But I've noticed it when I've first inspected the travelling code so I decided to leave it.
It's one of these things you see and you don't want to see again.

Is it really true? Is it possible to start disassembling of objects that should not be disassemblable? I guess you may mean that misleading message on disassembling page which says something like "Are you sure? The project cannot be cancelled". So it's about disassembling project, not object. Hmmm.... I can fix it.

About that, why does it say "cannot be cancelled"? It can be cancelled. Maybe whoever wrote that meant to say "the item will be gone forever once disassembled"?

No. It was written that way because it was true.

In that case there's another bug: you can cancel it. Not sure why it shouldn't be that way, but either way the message is wrong at the moment.
