Has ANY one ever traveled from the K-island to the main one?
I was wondering if it was ever possible to sail between them.
plus is it true that you can't make bows in K-island? (except the primitive one)
plus call the "primitive bow" short bow, that would be great

I'd rather have a short bow be a short bow, with bow string and such, but the name short bow might have something more technical like recurve bow. I dunno, I'll let the bow guy answer that one.
As for the K-isle / Nonirwrok not being able to make anything better than the primitive bow, well my map maker was half way done with his first edition when the change happened, I haven't been to the 16 cities again to double check that. I'm on my way to the very last spot on the island I need to map for my first edition, but after that, I plan to tour the isle and distubute it and write my second edition. I'll check for cotton, silk or hemp while doing that.
Yes, yes, a lack of resources promotes trade, but this is plain stupid. An island with people wearing skins, no vehicles better than a tandem bike, and now wimpy bows. If someone come to the K-isle well prepared, the island is toast. We should be able to make big stone heads there, it'd fit in perfectly...
Just ONE spot, one spot on the island with the materials to make bowstrings, that's all I'm asking. We've got a "forest" with no wood, drop some silk or something in there. Or just change the bows back to not needing string. It's an unfair change to give a whole continent the short end of the stick with an "upgrade"
As for people leaving K-isle and landing on the "main" land, which one are you talking about? I know of the one with the Balman or Great map, and another with Olip/Krif on it, but I'm almost certain they aren't one land mass and both are rather big.
I do remember a "hunting" expedition leaving the K-isle to hunt elephants ... don't know how that went...

So...my known land masses:
KDS continent, includes Olip, Pok, and who knows what else...Kroner could tell better if he chose.
'Old' continent. Contains Cantr City area, and also Tirqui, Quill, Siom, and associated areas.
Dhung continent/island. Depopulated and nasty. I forget everything else.
Nonirowk...too much discussed to say anything significant.
Aki land...I don't know anything more than that it has lots of 'Aki' names and a high bad animals to people ratio.
Whatever that place the explorers from Nonirowk found was...I only know that it exists. It might even be Aki or Dhung landmass for all I know.

The people of Noniwrok should be able to get some string-making resources without a need to add resources into the island. Theres still some places around there that nobody has been to yet...
And I will not elaborate, but I think they're close enough to the stuff they need.
Also, bows aren't the only weapons you can make out there, so I'm not really worried. So if fifty years from now, strangers come bearing bows and run into an island where everyone has spears, there will be quite some trading and learning going on.

Yes, weapons on the K-isle aren't totally destroyed by the "update", just seperated by a wide gulf.
Primitive bows, billy clubs and spears.
...
Wide gulf
...
Sabers and broadswords.
If there are other hand weapons that require less than iron and no string and fall in the middle ground there, I don't know them That's what the bows used to be, the not as good as iron or steel, but more time intensive than a tree limb club. Leather can be made on the island, but it doesn't really matter. It now a sudden gulf between the haves and the have nots. If you had a bow before the change, you're ok, if not, forget about it.
Does anyone look at any ramifications before implementing things, or are the changes just put in the game to sort themselves out?

you need like 5 days to make one even if you have all the tools and resources ready, thats like longer than the bow, and the spear is still worse than it
Um, my research says bone spear is about the same damage as longbow...it does take quite a bit longer to make, probably, but you need less wood, and no machinery...you probably need a bow stringer to make a longbow, as well as all those things to get the bowstring..

Some places on the island nobody's been to? That doesn't seem likely...the island's been around for 20 years and been well and completely mapped for around 16 of those.

Well and completly mapped will take on a new meaning as soon as I can get it...
I'm desperate for string on the island. I just think this move to bow with strings was really unjust to the island. I'll leave off ranting for a while, becuase I'm starting to get headaches...

There is about 4 points difference between them now, it seems. Used to be 5. That's close to about right, I'd say, though I'd prefer just one more point for the spear (ie what the old hunting bow used to be). The bone spear is now the premier weapon for forest folk who don't have easy access to string. All my new forest characters make themselves one.
For once I've no gripes. I'm pretty happy with how these weapons turned out.
By the way, how come none of my characters ever ended up on one of those exotic islands? It's always the same old bleedin' Siom or KDS. For me 'exotic' means Blaman or Xiria.
