But maybe it was a good Thing, after all. Certainly it's thrown one of my character's plans up in the air a bit, in the process of unexpectedly following bits of them. I'm beginning to learn that it's foolish to attempt to make plans in Cantr.

This. I don't get this very often, but when I do, it's memorable.

The whole Cassandra thing was a big one for me.

Yeah, one of my characters is realising that...

People that decide they don't want their characters anymore and just put them to sleep waiting for them to die yet there are those around said character that holds onto hope the person they love will wake up, thus feeding them forever and the player refuses to check the character.

Seriously.. if you have no desire. Just tell me and I'll stop wasting my time keeping you alive. If I don't know. I'll keep feeding. And let my characters move on. I've got too many sitting around stuck in the place they are at waiting and praying the person they love will wake up so we can set off to our next destination..

I've got one character somewhat diligently keeping a sleeper fed, with absolute faith that he'll wake up one day. And even an ooc message from the player explaining they don't intend to wake him up wouldn't keep him from being fed.

Not all of my characters are so dedicated though, plenty of them give up on their own.

Just saying, if you don't know who the player is, a chance is they might be banned. If someone is banned, they're not allowed to say goodbye but their characters survive as long as someone feeds them, because banned accounts never time out.

It's a suckier case when you know who the player is and see their other characters active while the one who's with you just sleeps.

Well.. in the event of the player being banned. Why doesn't it let the account time out? That sounds like a serious flaw and really messes with RP by not letting some people be able to move on. I know at least two characters around mine that are potentially banned. But well. maybe not know but suspect it highly. It just sucks cause of the emotional attachment, my characters won't leave their friend/lover behind unguarded and pray that they will wake up.

Maybe if enough people complain about it, it could get changed. I think the main problem is that there is (or at least was) no banned and inactive status, so in order to keep the locked status, the account must be active.

CDLS EDIT: Please refrain from explaining how PD handles applications.

Also isn't there a function where the player can request a character be killed off? Instead and letting it live there as a sleeper. They could do that. I thought it had requirements like;

Can't be involved in major conflict RP in a certain amount of time,
Must not be played in a certain amount of time.

Or am I thinking of a policy for a different game.. could be. Still.. it really is one of my biggest annoyance that I invest so much time into another character and RP with them. My characters develop a strong bond with the character. And they fall asleep and now I'm stuck there cause my character won't abandon them while there is still that glimmer of hope.

PD hasn't killed off characters on request in a long time. Maybe there were too many people who claimed they needed to cull characters because of real life, yet ended up spawning new ones after old ones were killed off. Nowadays people have to drop their food or kill themselves with a weapon or take poison. Of course there's the voluntary death from old age, which is a good feature to have, but maybe the age limit could still be lower.

One thing I've occasionally been thinking of is if characters had buttons that could be clicked once a day saying Happy and Unhappy, and if you clicked unhappy, it would add to a random chance of getting incurable cancer. That way young characters could die naturally without having to wait until 70 years of age.

Nah that idea doesn't sound too good. People have bad days. Sometimes characters have really heart crushing days and the player doesn't want to do it anymore. They click the button. They end up getting that cancer, but then suddenly before they die something good turns up and now they are screwed cause they are dying. Which also leads me to my argument. Don't spawn if you don't plan to play. Period. I've got.. *looks real quick* 4 characters that are for the most part, alone. One of which now being 27 has finally started to get something interesting to happen in her life after taking a chance and joining a crew.

Really hate getting newspawns that don't spawn where they wanted and just up and fall asleep and die. *coughdomhofrancough* Life is full of disappointments. Deal with it. Pick yourself up, dust off, and put that foot in front of the other and walk forward in life. You'd be surprised where that so called 'fail spawn' might end up. Even if you don't like the place you spawn. Most places can give you a few things to get you started and then you can set off on your own. I personally would much rather have a newspawn take a look around and tell me my town sucks and to go F myself and then start walking, than smile, introduce themselves. And pass out never to say another word.

And while on the subject. If you are going to spawn, gather resources so that you can fill your arms and starve to death. At least gather the more useful resources... I don't need anymore grass people! 200kilos is enough! Get something else!

There used to be, but then people abused the ability to request it.

And that is one of the reasons why as well.

I am on both sides of this. It is a complete disappointment to have this great idea for your next character, spawn it...and then its traits and/or location make that not as probable. I would say that out of the 15 characters I have, only 1 has spawned with the traits/location to make its pre-defined role in life probable, but it didn't go that route because in game events influenced a different life choice. The other 14 characters, instead of rethinking new paths for them, I just let them take their own way, letting events dictate their goals/future.

Few of my chars keep feeding sleepers, and I know or I think at least one player isn't banned. My character is content about keeping that person fed and alive. About others, I feel little uneasy and disturbed from their presence. My chars can't quit counting on them , they miss them and they hope they will wake up. My being annoyed as player doesn't change anything since characters have their own mind. I think banned accounts must be closed and characters must have heart attack.

I never feed sleepers unless the player hints somehow that he will return after real life business has concluded.

Some of my characters used to fed sleepers while others didn't, depending on their own nature, but me knowing that the player behind one of those characters is banned or doesn't want to play that character anymore wouldn't change their actions as those concepts don't exist for my characters and I doubt that a 'Please let me starve to death' per se would work.
