battle of the sex's "sexs"

Postby TsukuneAono » Sat Oct 18, 2014 10:12 am

Now to me I feel this would become a very controversial topic but please note to no sexism, unnecessary opinions
But whenever I play I always have an uncomfortable feeling when I fall in love with another player for the fact that it might be a Guy and don't give me crap about who cares what sex they are because they are role playing as a different gender. Its the fact that some very powerful things that could be happening could end up with a creepy weirdo on the other end of that character.and I don't want to stop doing that because I still do Luke getting to know other characters more personally.
I was just wandering if mainly any players play the opposite sex.

7/15 of my characters are opposite sex. I don't really care which sex the player of my character's lover is because I've played characters of all sexual orientations and both genders, including one female to male transsexual. It's a bit difficult to me to play male gay relationships, so I generally tend to avoid that, but many of my guys are at least bi-curious.

In the apparent absence of spoiler tags I'll use small font for the 'actually...' bit which you didn't ask for:
Simply put, sex is what's in your underwear, gender's what's in your head, they're not the same thing, shouldn't be used interchangeably, and aren't limited to two options (except insofar as the game requires you to choose a binary sex for each character). More information here.

To answer your question, I don't currently and haven't previously RPed 'romantic' relationships but I have one lady character and three gentlemen characters and I myself am non-binary. Under the right circumstances I suppose any of three of my characters might end up in such a relationship, but the only thing I'd care about in terms of the player is their RP quality (I can't imagine I'd RP anything that'd require me to worry about their age, but obviously if I did that'd be the other thing that'd matter.).

Oh, sadly, some people. There was real feline hate going on in a thread around here... :'(

I play characters of both sexes and of varying genders. The opportunity to do so is one of the things I value most about Cantr.

I have to admit that I am one of those people who just play.. one gender and that's male. Though one day I will try to play female

Romantic relationships aren't the only ones in the game. Friends, enemies, rivals, employee-employer or subject-leader (and vice versa), business partners. And that's without even getting into all of the clans, families and other relationships there are.

That should be enough to keep you busy without having any time left to get into romance.

I never consider the sex/gender of the player behind characters mine interact within any capacity (like the one's Wiro pointed out, or romantic ones) because it's not me falling in love, it's my characters. The player matters not. And saying you worry about RPing and "end up with a creepy weirdo on the other end of that character" makes it sound like you're only in it for some sort of sexual interaction with the player (because of your gender worries).

To actually answer your question, and only because it will probably make you uncomfortable knowing how many people play different sex/gender/orientations than their own as a player, I play a mix of different genders, that's usually pretty evenly weighted, with the opposite gender characters being some of the ones people have loved most of mine over the years(I seem to be better at rping the opposite gender).

EDIT: I suppose this strikes a nerve with me because I've encountered another player or two with your opinions, one of which ooc messaged me IG to ask if I was really female when intimacy started. I lied, because Eff you it's none of your business, and the RP interaction stopped, their character stopped any RP towards me alltogether.

SECOND EDIT: And I would have been completely able to respect if someone didn't want to continue intimate RP but still interacted and had a relationship with mine. (okay, probably not respect at all, but hey, I would have kept at my interactions at least, with a slightly marred view of the player, because SERIOUSLY ARE YOU KIDDING ME THIS ISN'T A PLACE TO GET YOUR ROCKS OFF only.)

I was going to post something very similar but Rebma beat me to it. Your chars are interacting with other chars. The player behind those chars should be irrelevant.

That doesn't just apply to romantic interactions either. If my char encounters a jerk, I don't think "gosh, that player is such an asshole!" It's the char being a jerk, not the player.

I don't find the player's situation/character/opinions/gender/etc. pertinent at all when interacting in game either, in any kind of relationship. I believe that it would be very limiting and way less fun adding that kind of ooc considerations when interacting with other characters.

All my characters are male as well, and I have few characters.

I believe it is usually better not to know what the character's player's sex is. Since it is likely that you will become unconsciously biased if you're not careful.

I agree with Rebma and SumBum, it shouldn't matter what gender the other player is, or your gender. You don't 'fall in love' with anyone, it's your characters falling in love, and if you like a character, it's the character you like, and admire the player for making a good character. This isn't a dating site, and it's not a place to get your rocks off. xD Don't get me wrong, I don't see anything wrong with players getting to know each other ooc and falling in love, but this isn't really the point of the game, so one shouldn't go out looking for it in intimate rp if you get what I mean.

As for me, I also play a mix of genders, male and female. I too have been asked if I'm female, and it's rather annoying.

If I was asked what I am...I'd answer 'sheep' and see how they feel about that!
