Actually, I think that unofficial rule that we can ignore characters without description is OK for game

I think you may have missed my point, or I hope I am misunderstanding you.

I'm not really sure the point either... I don't ignore people in game because they don't have a description for their character. And I hope to God there aren't people like that in the game that do ignore people because of a lack of description. I started playing the game in a time before you could do that and people got along just fine without it. I myself don't bother with a desc until I really get a feel for how the character is.

Because I know I'm not the only person with the problem of these characters never do what we the player had actually planned for them at creation. They have minds of their own.

I don't think that is right way to interact with others. Does it really matter? Some have nice and so and others not so nice. After all behind all chars is player and we humans tend to be different. I myself don't ignore anybody because that doesn't feel right way.

@ miedein: Some players on the forum expressed their "hate" of the lack of description and stated that they don't rp with characters who don't have a description. I believe that's what kaloryfer is referring to, and it doesn't sound like s/he missed the point at all, as it is an ooc reason to isolate chars.

It's like, oh hi blank character, let me just imagine what you could look like, oh wait did you just flick your hair...Hmm, I don't recall seeing any!!! (arghhhh)

I hate this too, is it so hard to make even a short description? I don't usually rp with characters who don't have a description, if I do start to, I'll ask them to make one, since it's no fun rping with a blank wall.

This behaviour isn't limited to these examples, either.

Your list contains really good points for improvement, Otherside.

Cantr could also do with a (much) lower learning curve. At the moment it takes months playing time (if not longer) to be able to fully enjoy what the game has to offer.

Would a chat window on the main page help? A place for OOC discussions?

I know we have the irc room but there is very little discussion there and I figure a large percentage of players have never been there. I wonder if a readily available chat would help if nothing else to give just that little extra means of interaction that keeps the game from being so boring at times when no one is "awake" where your characters are.

You mean like putting the irc chat on our player page under the characters? That does sound like a good idea. Used to people would all be in the irc. Chatting away but now a days I'm lucky to find a single person.

That could work and also new players would have easy access to ask help

There could easily be a button that would pop up a web based IRC chat at the bottom/side of the page and log you in with your login name (or a name saved in Player settings).

There are plenty of free PHP IRC clients around that could link with the existing server... This would probably detract from the forum though, and would be harder to police by the PD. (I haven't actually been on the IRC though, so I may well be wrong...)

I think it would be something worth looking into or at least discussing further. Obviously with this game language would be an issue since not everyone speaks the same language and probably would need ot be an option to log out of chat. I know there are times I wouldnt want to show as being online etc just to keep a character or two anonymous.

I've played a few games in the past where I enjoyed the chat discussion just as much as I enjoyed the game. Something this game sorely lacks imo.

After this post, I will be ignoring anyone on the forum who does not have an avatar pic.

Fair? Nope. People without avatars have plenty of good opinions and their posts should be read with the same interest as anyone else's until that individual proves that they aren't worth reading.

I don't ignore anyone without a description, but they can be very difficult to roleplay with, especially as most of the non-described that my characters come across don't bother to include such details in their rp, so it all ends up being rather flat and unengaging :|

Well lets all learn from it and move on. I did, as I'm sure others have. We don't need to dwell on problems, we just need answers?

It's fine to have an opinion and preference, but it shouldn't be imposed on others in game... Everyone has to respect that there was once a time when descriptions didn't exist... So some may think they're being helpful, but it may not come across that way to the other player. Just assume they are average looking/nothing special unless they build it into their writing?

The way I handle people without descriptions is looking up random "People at Wal-mart" Pics and randomly pick one to be the person without the description until they actually write one.

If that doesn't motivate people to do them, nothing will.

This is the approach i use for my chars. Some do have a description because they have a distinct look and/or demeanor, others don't because there is nothing worth mentioning.
