using inventory while travelling?

Postby Lumera » Tue Oct 05, 2004 2:19 am

Are roads drastically different than cities in terms of code? I was just wondering if there was a reason why you can't do anything with your inventory while travelling. I met someone who was starving, and I went to give him some food, only to find out it wasn't even possible. I'm not sure how difficult/impossible somethign like that would be to implement, but I just think it would be nice if you could at least transfer items to other players...and that would probably also open up new possibilities for bandits, or governments wanting to collect a toll, etc.

This has been discussed, and I'm guessing it's somewhere on the Prigramming Department list of stuff they'd like to do. If not, your bringing up this idea might spark thier interest.

If anyone has info about this subject that they've learned IC, please don't share it :wink:

Argh! Why'd you have to say that!? Now I'm going to be wondering... How about one tiny little hint? Pretty please? :D

You can trade anything you like while on the road, as long as it's a platypus bill, Komodo Dragon Hide, or dodo feathers. Nothing else works...

Roads are kind of weird, considering that your sphere of influence is a pretty long distance (or you're moving slowly). I'd like to argue that handing things over doesn't make sense when you and the other person will never be close enough to each other, but you are close enough to hit... Such a change would be good, although it would be very strange to the Cantr characters when the fundamental nature of their universe shifts.
Then again, I guess it's just proof that Cantr weapons are ranged. And people said using a saber to snipe out a window was strange :twisted: .

from what i've seen read and understand the roads are treated very differently to towns in th code.that's why when something freaky happens on the road everyone on the road can see it. it's basically just a big holding area for character's not in towns

When I've been traveling with someone else in the same direction but walking faster, I've eventually lost sight of them, meaning I can't see them, hit them etc. but we're both still travelling on the same road. Or is this well known :?

its known to be notoriously difficult to travel at the same speed as someone on a road. if you carry different weiɡhts, youʼll ɡo at different speeds, and you have to leave at pretty much exactly the same time...

Ah, it's easy to do.

As said above, the faster character slows down til the speeds match. I normally find it's between 75% and 90%.
