Unsubscribe button

Postby EddyEdworthy » Mon Oct 18, 2004 8:27 pm

Is there any chance of the unsubscribe button being moved away from the log out button!? I just nearly unsubscribed myself!!!!!

My suggestion is dont use the log out button. Just close the browser. Hmm, and as well, it's a good idea to get rid of the button altogether, IMO. Just abandon your chars and let the program delete your account instead, I think is safer, or email the PD for an unsubscribe.

But seriously, what is the need for a player unsubscribe button? It's a one time thing in many cases...and when not, it's usually because someone is taken from the net for a myriad of reasons, not because they unsubscribe intentionally i believe.

I don't think it should be so big, or so close to the other buttons.

Yes, and it shouldn't perhaps use the generally accepted icon for "close window". There are a lot of games where when you close them say "are you sure". So it just takes a single moment of distraction (mobile or someone talking at your elbow) to click the wrong button, then click "yes", and then that's it...

Why not have the unsubscribe choice via the 'change' button of your personal details?...

I too almost lost my charaters forever...

I agree that it is too easy to unsubscribe accidentally. Usually, the heart attack that occurs when one's brain is surprised with "Are you sure you want to unsubscribe?" is enough to stop the accidental action. But, only so many heart attacks are good for a person, and we've seen that it is sometimes not quite enough to stop accidental unsubscriptions.

I don't know what would be the easiest solution from a tech perspective, but my vote goes for whatever it is :D

Too many times have I experiences that heart-stopping, eyeball popping, breathtaking, vision-darkening, fear inducing, 'OMG my fingers just went numb', spine-shivering, AHHHHH!!!-like thing with that damn unsubscribe button. I suggest moving it to the side of the screen, away from the char and log out buttons as well as labelling it with some message in red similar to "THIS IS THE UNSUBSCRIBE BUTTON" That way if somebody (poor, unfortunate soul) really does want to leave Cantr (May God have mercy on them) they can do so and we can stop having those AHHHH!!! moments.

I think you're all crazy. Must I say, "hence the warning." If you accidently unsubscribe then you must be a.) Drunk, b.) High, c.) Fatigued, or d.) Your other, malicious multiple personality has taken over and is trying to destroy your life.

Now you must ask yourself how to solve these problems. If a.) then drink something a little less intoxicating. If b.) Smoke a cigar instead. If c.) Go to bed and play your character tomorrow. If c.) then beat yourself with a metal frying pan until the evil spirit is gone or see an exorist or a pyschologists. Either or. They're the same anyways.

Well, good luck and remember this isn't any official word on what to do. Just general advice. And remember we are all insane so don't be timid and hide it.

Maybe it's just a tick with my browser, but just closing the window leads to lost minutes for me. The log out button's necessary.

As for the unsubscribe button--shouldn't there be an "Are you sure" page, for that?

There is one, inlcuding a red warning message, and despite what I thought to have read in earlier posts, the second confirmation button is not placed exactly where the first button is positioned.

You really need a lot of a)-e) to accidentally unsubscribe.

I would note that the disaster in question has happened...once at least. So it isn't impossible.

The confirmation button is horizontally alligned with the 'log out' button and depending on your scroll location may be vertically alligned as well, so I could imagine misclicking on the unsubscribe and then 'correcting' to click on the log-out, but hitting the confirm unsubscribe instead...It would be rather a freak accident, though.

I would say there ought to be a password check on unsubscribing for security reasons, though.
