Best Cantr Poetry

Fun fact: many "authors" copy their poems from the internet. It seems this one is pretty authentic, from a quick google search. It's nice.

One of my characters had a considerable collection of literature that she was quite proud of. She decided to compile it into a book, and I just happened to copy/paste a line into google, and sure enough, there it was. Nearly 3/4 of her collection was plagerized! Needless to say, I destroyed it all. There's no place for that in Cantr, in my opinion. We were both very disappointed.

I had always had an idea that some people copied their works off the internet but I never got the idea that it was a common practice, does it not break some kind of rule (everything needing to be generated within the game world, etc)? The only reason I never wrote any poetry and only a single story was because it was so damn hard to think of anything! I really appreciate the flavor people bring to the game with their original pieces, especially when I can tell its influenced by their time in Cantr. I did always wish their were more non-fiction writers beyond just history or maps, can't someone just explain why they believe "x is the only moral response to y crime" instead of just assuming all these thing ?

Personally I always enjoyed a poem about stars by Kostav who lived in Doryiskom long ago. Sorry that I can't be more specific, the note is no longer in my possession, twas a pretty poem though.

If I write poetry in game it's all original, I don't see why you would copy from the internet, just don't write any aha.

I like some of the religious and philosophical texts I've seen, like the notes where cantrians explore the "sleeping sickness" and where their souls come from, and why some people never wake up their entire lives, it's so realistic showing how people question their world, and then there's other things like informative documents, people write down instructions for making things so others can see them, I have a character who is (very slowly) working on compiling a volumized set of cookbooks with every recipe he knows. I don't know if he'll ever finish because he's so busy all the time, but it's the only thing he's ever done that's literature-related, cooking is his art so I thought a cookbook would be neat =P

I will admit that most of my Cantr poetry is parody.

The Hatchet Song Izzy wrote for Wonder, for example, based on Peter Paul and Mary's If I Had a Hammer.
I don't have it anymore since Izzy is dead.

In the long ago romantic days, when heros sailed the ocean,
The merchant ships were glamorous (in shameless self promotion).
The holds were rich with cargo, the fearless captains needed `non`
but a helm to grip with callused hands, and a star to focus on.

There was no forced drafting, no death for jumping ship,
the captains directed good lads, with respect instead of the whip.
Each man was worth his own salt, all counted equally free,
the provisions were held in common, they practiced democracy.

Oh, the seas were full of danger, of vicious rain and hail
where the decks were washed with sea brine, a rip in every sail
but the toil was worth it, when the lookout shouted "land ahoy!"
and they set foot on golden shores again, kissed the ground in joy.

They boldly sailed from port to port,
bringing goods from a foreign land.
They dined honored in the monarch`s courts,
told tales of adventures grand.

The world today is strange, not like the day of old
but still, keep the inns ready, and watch the sea!
