I have had chars leave before for RL personal reasons, usually to die, sometimes RP'd fully, sometimes a breakdown, others just go in silence. It depends on their life, how they've lived and their partners.

To be honest with you, I would rather someone just upped and left rather than watch someone else wait for years only to die in front of me, having my character feed them, whisper to them and almost start grieving before they've even gone.

This. I've had a character up and leave before simply for real life reasons. I had to cut down on characters. I had her write a note and everything, but she died somewhere no one will ever be able to reach...I wish I'd known that would happen, but it was too late by the time she died.

And often I can't have my character truly leave because I get guilt tripped...I had a character legitimately try breaking up with someone once, but I got harassed OOC for it. -.-

Wow. Good reason to keep your charries identity private I suppose.

Oh no, worse, this was in game. In whispers. And they didn't just do it to me either, they did it to the person my character had developed feelings for. Touchy. Sure it wasn't the best situation, but my character had reasons for leaving and the player didn't have to take it so personally. Wouldn't believe some of the stuff I told to make me feel guilty.

So I really don't blame people sometimes for just walking away or slowly dying. As long as it's for a legitimate reason. If you just can't be bothered because you're bored or a lazy rper, that's not an excuse.

Someone clearly doesn't understand the line between IC and OOC. If they were OOCly harassing you, I hope you reported them. I hate to dump more work on PD but sometimes players need a slap back to reality.

Seems like we have a few of those running around these days.

It would be nice to have a community or even just a town that exists for peace and quiet. Everyone who enters must take a vow of silence. Even the "mutes", because I have met a few that are louder than those who speak!

There is far too much of that if you let your chars be identified. I tried distancing myself from some players and keep talking to others that I liked, but things have a habit of coming back, so I had to stop almost all. Most of my OOC known chars are now dying.

Not everyone is mental, but some players can severely taint your view of the game and how it works. It happens and it sucks but I think almost every Cantr player has to go through something like it at one point?

Like Otherside, I too had to stop conversing with most players OOC. I find I have a much more pleasant experience when I simply don't know the player behind the characters. OOC ignorance is bliss, I think.

Agreed. I prefer other players don't know my characters and I dont know who plays what characters. I stopped reading the I Am... thread a couple months ago because it was too tempting to piece together at times. It does make game play so much easier. I hate talking about characters in another town or something knowing that one of the people listening plays one of those characters.

Since we've gotten way off topic I'll throw out a few things:

I'd like to see some more successful religious fanatics. I think this is very hard to do because most people for one reason or another just shrug and carry on when they see it.

More war/evil town leaders. I've tried this and failed miserably, but especially in the english zone it seems the islands are way too peaceful. Kudos to the one group that has people afraid to come to their town whether it was intentional or not :)

I'm trying to start a rather isolationist, formality driven town, that would hopefully build animosity with their neighbors, etc. It's not going so well.

I want to play a slave. I've never played one and I don't recall ever meeting a slave character that I liked.

I wouldn't mind playing a slave, but not the ones that just spawn like "I wanna be someone's slave, who wants me?" I'd rather my character didn't know slavery but ends up kidnapped or captured during a fight and becomes a slave and then it's all they know and becomes their life. I have characters who have the impulse to always be helping people and offering to work for people but I've never had a character owned by someone, it would be interesting as long as it's not one of those purely-sexual rape slaveries, like a slave that has to work all the time, a slave that gets sent in one's place to attempt a murder or spy on someone or gather resources in a bad town with vicious animals because they're expendable, it would be interesting playing a character that has to do what they're told even when it might get them killed, and challenging because they have to develop a sense of self-preservation to survive their master and also the things they're ordered to do. It's too boring when someone just has a slave and hits them with a weapon all the time to assert dominance, or rapes them every day, or starves them to make sure they won't leave, there's too much of that.

Hey what about large groups of slaves? Are there any towns out there somewhere where they regularly kidnap people or newspawns and force them to build things and make things, like in real life, instead of all these personal slaves everyone has? There must be some Polish pirates or something somewhere who holds groups of people to work for them (besides people who have been arrested for crimes and forced to work it off). I did read a note about one man holding a bunch of people in some maze-like building and their journals sounded really depressing, but it was more like a solo psycho, I mean like a civilization where everyone in the city has no problem with the other half of the city being slaves.

I have a character who, in her current-and-continuing state of mind, would be very interesting to RP as a slave... I just have no idea how to get her into that situation. I admit she'd probably continue to be unhappy if she did end up becoming a slave, but my sense of story feels that it would be an extremely interesting development.

The rest of my wakeful characters are probably too bizarre (in various ways) to roleplay well as a slave - rebellious or co-operative, I just have trouble imagining them in that situation.

Used to have a very successful slaver. It was interesting to play out and interesting the ones that did actually take to the idea and rp it. Seko was one of them at the time. The town was good with it because the ones there were my characters crew...and newspawns were automatically spawned as slaves.

One of my characters actually WANTS to do this, but actually as a secret to regular town members. It will be quite some time before she can manage it though.
