And it gives another use for rubber besides tires and harvesters. Don't forget things can be made out of sheepskin and the like as well. But all that would mean that people were doing reproduction projects without the intent to reproduce.

Sort of like real life.

And it lets that "Best Little Whorehouse in ... ??? Olip forest?" have a more relevant use.

The biggest benefit I see with children is that it will create moral and immoral disfunction/function in society. Child labour laws, Child Abuse etc. It will also change opinions of people in the public eye in differant areas of the cantr society, who comes into power etc. These are all good things, I think, because as of now the only laws we have are hunting laws, farming laws and stealing laws. I imagine that a lot of people will allow their real life views of children to affect the IC world (which I don't agree with.) But like slavery I think there will be some major misfortune added when children come along. I think that it will also force some people to take a bigger interest in their characters personalities.

It adds option to the types of people who you can play. You can play a broad who gets knocked up several times that leaves a child on someones doorstep, every time.

You can play a good parent, a parent who spoils their children, begin to have royalty, a womens community where they hold men hostage for their ability to make them become mothers, etc etc...I can hardly list all the possibilities, but that isn't even the half of them. The bigger picture outweighs all the negative things you could point out in my opinion. Adding children will create situations of which make this a more realistic simulation of how society works. Children in real life are the future, and so will they be IC if people can manage to avoid disease or what not. lol

On one hand I feel reproduction should be allowed to happen anywhere in the game, because public displays of affection are also a societal view of which should be determined ICLY rather than by the functions of the game IMPO.

On the other hand, making it a chore that must be done inside gives people a good reason to make use of buildings, which hasn't been very successful so far, as far as I can tell.

So along with children comes child labor laws, child abuse, and forced reproduction (rape) and these are good things?

If there are laws keeping children from working, how will they eat? If they are given food, what will motivate them to work if and when they mature?

Child abuse. This is a text based game, on the internet. You don't get to see the marks on the child, you don't see the look in thier eyes, the abject terror at your presence, them jumping when you make a sudden move withing possible reach, you just don have the consequences any human being who isn't a sociopathic selfcentered ass will have after abusing a child. It won't be coded, so it would ony be RPed, which is just as bad, if not worse.

Rape? Should I start another poll, one for if you've been raped and want to be raped in Cantr? What possible good can come out of that except for us asking for a slower way to kill people at our lesiure so they can be some kind of closure. No.

This is the internet. People feel anyonomys here, they feel like they won't be noticed. When people feel un-important, they do things to get attention. Sometimes people build empires and create legacys of good deeds. Sometimes people steal a sabre and stab everyone in the towns they come across. Adding children to people interact with and use for attention is a bad idea.

I won't even get into how I feel about raping children. It should be pretty obvious.

Neither is murder, theft or a number of other things I'm sure you don't mind doing in Cantr.
Since this game is a society simulator real life moral shouldn't be applied to the game...it's up to the people in game to decide.

I don't understand why some of you seem so afraid of sexual content in Cantr. It's like you are stuck in some Victorian era where sex is dirty...

If some minors could take damage from seeing reproduction in the game (and it won't be very graphic I'm sure) they shouldn't play at all, since there are several other more serious things that could cause them damage...and then it is really up to them or their parents to keep them from playing.

It isn't offending, really

from bottom up of course
1094-6: You kill Sam(a man in his twenties)(took my girl away, angry at this fellow) with a sabre
1094-6: You say: Don't you take my girl
1094-6: You see Sam(a man in his twenties)(took my girl away, angry at this fellow) reproduce with Whoever(a woman in her twenties)(the love of my life)

I would say that all the social downsides of children in cantr could very well be good things (to have in the game), though considering the timescale, continuity isn't so important...as it is now, newspawns are the future...but no one's died of old age yet, so their time is yet to come.

But really, how many of you want, not to have children in cantr, but to have no choice but to spend 200+ days of incapacity with each new character? And how many of you want everyone who isn't so inclined to get bored and leave, or never really join? (a few mistakes many people make and your new player is stuck with nothing but babies...)

In case you couldn't tell, I think that that part is what would hurt cantr, and that it would make the entire thing wither up.

It happens in RL too, well, like 50 years ago... a young couple become careless and ends up with 15 babies

I think that if babies/children are added, they should be much harder to come by in Cantr.... in order to enhance the value of life where it tends to be rather devalued in the game.

Do you remember being a kid? I do. I have very clear memories since the age of four or something. At the age of six you are able to plan things for the future, and in some level work intependantly but are somewhat dependant from adults. At the age of eight you can survive on your own in most cases. At the age of eleven you may be totally intependant and productive. Then comes puberty, which is a terrible drawback... In the old times there wasn't such as youth because kids were put to work and then they turned into adults and started having kids of their own. Basically even ten year olds can reproduce though they mostly die giving birth because their body is not formed into a woman yet. ...It's true I wouldn't like to spend ages playing only children though. As I've suggested before, the kid should be only an automated object for the first year and after that have a higher functionality than kids iRL. But I suggest dependance on a caretaker until the age of five or six. Otherwise the thing would lose it's meaning.

I mainly find talk of children siily and amusing when we don't even have domesticated animals yet. If you want to get a benchmark on how players will react to children, give them something else to care for first. Code in some dogs and cats, maybe some birds or whatever and see how people care for them and treat them. And when people start kicking dogs and killing cats for meat, You'll see how they will feel about having to take care of children.

but animals aren't played by players, and never will be, but children are highly likely to be. In fact I would question any implementation of children where that is not the case

Aren't the players childish enough as it is?

A lot of the true debate, for me, will be based upon whether or not the children are going to be inanimate objects, or played by real people. If by real people, my chars won't have children, if inanimate, they might consider it.
