Re: Things that annoy or puzzle you about Cantr
I play accents a bit... mostly that reflect some people I have known RL.
Its fun to use them to throw in a few very suggestive malapropisms, usually with phonetics.
I have to be careful though, sometimes they do get too thick. There is a balance.

When I saw accents, I immediately thought of the music symbols that tell you to attack a note with more volume (stylitically, of course). I'm such a music nerd. xD

A long time ago, I once saw somebody do this:
xxxx-x.xx a man in his twenties says: "Is there anything I can do around here? *he speaks with a British accent*"
I didn't take that character very seriously. lol
-=-=-
As for reading the stuttering, while incredibly annoying, I pretty much eliminate the entire first half of the word unless it's excessive, in which case I'll skip.
One thing all of my characters have in common, though, is that they stutter a little bit (some more than others) when they're extremely nervous or upset. I do this too (though I tend to do it more when I'm really preoccupied by something and trying to talk about something else at the same time, or when I lose my train of thought in the middle of a sentence).
-=-=-
The only accent I play is the stubbed up dose agsedt, and that's only when my characters are sick or are otherwise having significant trouble breathing through their nose. -nods-

I am puzzled by fluids. How you can just pick up a bunch of gas, or water, or both, from the ground, and carry it around, keep it in the same container or burlap sack or whatever as you food, and a bunch of sand, and still remove it without bother...
And all this would be fine except the process of gathering fluids doesn't make sense when you consider this behavior. It is difficult, for me, at least, to reasonably RP the act of getting water from a well. I would so much prefer fluids to require containers.

That's how my characters go about it anyway.
Honestly though, I sort of treat fluids like we have some sort of container not worth describing, disposable cups or some such. I saw someone role playing that they were wearing a dirty pillow case, or something that looked like. Since cantr species you're wearing nothing worth mentioning rather than have been left nude- so I found justification in that.

I imagine it more like zero gravity where liquid just glob together in floating masses. Just because you drop something doesnt mean it necessarily has to fall to the ground.
Lots of weird physics in the Cantrverse.

This reminds me Doug's story Cantria, though I haven't finished reading it. It's like Cantrians are magicians and can do things like make a lock out of a lump of cold iron and a screwdriver and hold water.

You can't get water from a well without a bucket. Still, liquids are challenging to rp.

You need a bucket at the end of the rope to reach that far down the well.

So agree with you there Sunni.
On another note, there are so many people with the same "unique" qualities now that it is becoming sickeningly common.

I wonder how many characters have black hair and piercing blue eyes. It makes me think of Xena.

SekoETC wrote:In the past when I've rp'ed stuttering, long ago, I mutter the words aloud and put stuttering on words that I personally have trouble with. It just comes naturally.
Someone should do a character with a really bad stutter who gets stuck on a single word and can't get across it, so others would have to finish their sentences. That would be something different.
There was a certain Marie, who died of the sleeping sickness (well, we stopped feeding her) - she only stuttered in points where it made sense and not constantly. That was well done.
I have a character that has stuttered from spawning, which was day 3142, he's my second character, and I've always had him stutter. But I agree with the way it should be done, I stutter occasionally in real life if I talk too fast or for too long a duration, I start to slip and mess my words up. So I base his stutter off my own, emphasis on consonants and hissing sounds like SS's and Sh's and Th's, and sometimes if he can't manage a word he uses an interchangeable word instead.
When he's in a peaceful state of life, sometimes he only stutters one word in a sentence, it's a tic so he can't stop it completely, but it gets worse the more stressed, nervous, or frightened he is, or if he gets hurt. And if you guys think it's annoying.. he's lived with only Polish people for over half his life now, I'm willing to bet they hate my guts sometimes, especially when he attempts to speak Polish. Yikes. But I made the character like the second day playing Cantr, I wasn't really thinking about the long-term. But to this day I've never really messed up, it's amazing.

And this too, it's funny, I was the first of a few characters with different oddities in their respective towns, mute, mentally handicapped, blind, etc, then suddenly like a whole bunch of people with the same issue would pop up. Or different ones. I know one town where there's a deaf person, a mute person, and a blind person. Only the deaf person spawned like that. I do like when people RP an injury or sickness to explain their ailment though I usually don't..
I'm also guilty of the black hair-blue eyes thing on a couple of mine > >
