prostitution or rape is romanticized all the time in romance novels. that doesn't make it a sound practice in the real world.

On he same token, most video games are about murder. men killing other men with guns, swords, or magic. in the real world murder harms you psychologically. it scars you in a way that damages you for life, yet it is romanticized, marketed as harmless entertainment.

some times it's okay to let fantasy just be fantasy. it doesn't have to be a statement about society. Let a knight fight a brigand, let a soldier shoot a faceless enemy, let a dashing rake pop some buttons off of blouses. It's okay :)

Except when you pick up a book, you generally have some idea what you're getting yourself into, if not from descriptions or reviews, then from at least the first few chapters. You can also stop reading it without creating awkwardness, or skip a few pages that trouble you without much impacting your ability to read the other plotlines and rest of the story.

The discussion about rape and violence and cantr are more analogous to a group of people setting out to write a joint novel deciding what themes should govern the book, and any rules that should govern how particular scenes are introduced and play out.

I think most love makers and prostitutes try to keep mostly to themselves. the violent folks are more prone to violence you up if you like fighting or not,

I don't care much for fighting, but on coastal town pirates can easily end you. I don't spend my time on the coasts wondering if call girls are going to come ruin my property value :)

So, I was this close *holds up two fingers in a pinching motion* to letting my account time out, but then I started caring again and logged in just now to prevent it even though I didn't actually play my characters.

I'm so weak.

A perfect storm of RL awfulness, IG events, and OOC knowledge of other IG events is converging on me at this exact moment. I had been improving my ability to be detached somewhat but weeks of conscious effort feel like they have evaporated in an instant.

Ok, already took measures and two of my chars will be dead in the next couple of weeks. I'm sorry for the chars my actions will hurt, and I apologize for what my actions did to one (possibly two) other chars. And there's more to come. I'm in a state where I can barely play properly, not to mention function at a normal level, and I'll have to start killing my poor chars, and leave only enough that I truly don't have the heart to cull. Big stories will come to an end for me.. So.. yeah. :|

I'm in the same boat Aurora and feel for you. Pressures of RL and my heath dictate that I have to back off. Also sorry to anyone that has characters affected.

I'm not too sure how vacation mode etc work, but dont forget that you can do that and there's likely to be some friendly characters in game that would be willing to keep yours fed so that you dont have to start from scratch if/when you decide to return to the game. :)

Not sure about Aurora but my situation is semi-permanent so rather than vacation mode I have to stop with some characters. My quieter ones will carry on though.

Over the past 5 or so years I have quit several times, my current strategy when faced with more characters than I can safely handle is to turn several of them into hermits and sailors. I have 15 characters which is too many sometimes. I am back with characters in their early to mid 20s and I usually end up leaving before they get to 40 because I realise that cantr is taking up every second of my free time!

I'm not going to be on for a while, and whatever my characters were supposed to be doing... well I guess it'll just have to be worked out by others IG, even though I hate to contribute to the sleepy leader/lover epidemic. :?
See you guys in a couple weeks/months while I focus on family problems and getting myself through school.

This sounds bad following Kinny's post. This isnt directed at him. His post just brought something to mind I've been wanting to gripe about for a bit. I understand people have to take leaves at times and understand but if you are able to get on and set vacation mode and you are in a position of control what's so wrong with passing along keys etc to a trusted companion so people arent stranded. I will care for a sleeping character until I'm blue in the face to keep someones characters alive if they show my characters a bit of respect but leave them stranded with no access to tools healing food etc that may be locked up then dont be surprised if you charries starve or are actually executed. That sounds a bit harsh but and I really dont mean it to be that way. I understand emergencies where you cant log on at all, but those that set vacation mode know they are going away and leave dependent characters in bad situations because of it are just selfish.
