Yesssss....this... I've had so many characters spawn in places where it was clear no one wanted them. Excellent idea with this, Seko.

And I have a character that would so much like to attract a newspawn but isn't able to get one since the place she's in has only two people and the one beside her is not active enough. Is there a chance any of the spawning ideas that can be found in different posts is going to be implemented?

Maybe this should be in the ideas thread instead, I'd like to expand on it a tiny bit... if a male and female character in the same area both want to attract a newspawn, that newspawn could be given the option of starting as a child and then those characters could be told they have spawned a child. Hey presto..... kids!

There is a thread about this somewhere, but I couldn't find it. I think it had to do with a discussion on Cantr's future.

You'd have to use different words than child and kid, I think, since that's why characters start at age twenty (over age of consent both IC and OOC to avoid legal problems.) Otherwise, if you had "children" spawning, then engaging in sex or torture... Yeah. Hello, authorities. No, we aren't running a child pornography ring here, promise.

I do like the idea of people becoming responsible for the creation of others, though. I've had several characters actually hunt down and figure out (based on location, skills, etc.) who their creators were, and call them out on it.

Edit: I also think it would have to be divorced from biology, since if you had two characters - male, female - who had nothing to do with each other, suddenly responsible for the creation of a newspawn... That suggests a sexual encounter that may not have happened. I'd rather it just require two people, either sex and any age, and explain it away as magic or just how things work.

Nothing irks me in Cantr more than the idea of having children in the game.

I'm a long time supporter of children in games. It's not like many people would play pedophiles even if it was possible, I'm guessing it would be just one or two people, and they would have to get consent from the victim's player, just like in regular rape scenarios. And there could be family ties even if everybody continued to spawn in the age of 20 as usual, so it's not like having children would necessarily require introducing new age groups.

The mere possibility of child abuse/rape is enough for me to hate it with absolute passion. It churns my stomach even as I type it. It's not something I wish for my characters or I to be exposed to.

I don't think that's something you can get consent for. That's something you can go to prison IRL for a long time for, so even facilitating it on an online game is not something anyone wants to do.

I am against having children in Cantr - but that said, as I noted above, I'm in support of family groups. Just be creative and come up with different names. Don't give people more of a reason than they have already to RP the girlish, tittering twenty year old with the emotional capacity of a five year old and a love of stuffed animals.

What's wrong with a 20-year-old loving stuffed animals?

There were legal issues in sl in regards to child avi's and sex which led to them banning any avatar that could be mistaken for a child being in the adult rated sims. If there were child characters I think a 'no sexual activity' rule, consensual or not should be clearly spelt out. Otherwise you would be wading into all sorts of ick.

'regular rape scenarios'

And I've got to say that I've always hated the idea of children in Cantr. Newspawns and where they come from and their place in the social order are one of those cool little bits of IG culture that have developed over the years, I don't like the idea of throwing it all out the window just to shoehorn in something from real life that the game has no need for, especially when the whole 1 male + 1 female + sex = 1 kid thing directly contradicts hundreds of years of Cantr history.

Also just going by the number of abandoned 'much weaker than average' characters, I'm pretty sure most people aren't going to want to play ones that are even more crippled and useless.

Also, also, good God but I hate 'family' RP, it's seriously creepy, especially when most of the 'family' is constantly screwing each other behind closed doors. Make them their actual underage children and suddenly I don't think I want to play this game anymore.

I don't mind the family thing, mainly because I don't have a close blood family and I consider my close friends my family so I personally see it the same way in Cantr. If someone chooses to play a character that spawns knowing very little and has to learn it, then that's RP and something different to the way everyone else does it. Personally I don't "get" spawning knowing everything even though it's totally accepted, I think it would be more explainable if we spawned knowing absolutely nothing and had to learn everything. Then if that person was accepted into a family why wouldn't they call their guardians mum and dad? They know to call houses houses, they know the name for trees, they know all the nouns and adjectives that we do so why not the names mum and dad too?

It's got to be accepted that characters can know things on spawning otherwise every time someone spawned we'd go through the same thing with them each time, they learn words, they learn how to draw, to write, what to eat and what not to, how to work machinery, what a rope is even. But if someone chooses to spawn not knowing then why not? Then if someone chooses to look after them and "adopt" them why not? There are names that go with these things here on earth, adopted kids still call their female guardian mom/mum even if adopted at 15 years old and have the physically maturity of a young adult. Why not another 5 years on that? Cantr isn't real life, it has different rules, if we "shouldn't" do things because some people don't like it, then we'd not do anything.

What she said.

I was already about to rant on the "oh daddy, I deserve some spanking" thing. I'm not a puritan and I'm getting used to just ignore the family stuff, but if you're going to give a sexual background nuance to it, go do it behind a door, please.

Family doing this is a bit weird for me too.... I'm all for playing chars that know as much as kids do..... but the description says "a woman/man in their twenties" and they should be played as such really. But if someone wants to have V.sex with another character... please don't treat them as your child too!... well not where I can see it anyway. *upchucks*
