Funny reminds me of something that hapened to me. Not sure if same charries but I had a charrie that was in the situation of your original friends. Then the girl ran away with one of my other charries while the first was away because he was too boring. Of course she promptly dumped the new one as well shortly after. Guess I'm admitting I play boring charries but thought this was amusing. Don't guess she ever knew that I played both charries even though I tried to hint the new charrie would probably be just as boring as the one she was running from lol.

Nope, not the same situation. Sounds funny though! In any case, it has been fun to start a town from the ground up. No buildings, only a couple of fire pits when we got there. There is a certain sense of accomplishment that comes from seeing your work evolve into a town. We have a nice little group of six working hard to build something.

Did you know that...
...it's a good idea to have a lockable chest in your car?

Can someone please tell me why this is true?

In case you give a ride to a stranger. You can lock up your goods instead of have them stolen.

I always assumed it is so you can take the fuel out of engine and lock it again. Protection from theft.

I laughed when I saw the title of this thread.

Idea: ships, after existing for long enough, become sentient, playable characters.

And to play the ship, you could let your char get grown in with the hull?

"part of the ship, part of the crew"

And, you could only be relieved if you get another char to release you from the ship

I was thinking more of an animated figurehead, like in Robin Hobb's http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liveship_Traders_Trilogy.

Having flashbacks to some really terrible Anne McCaffrey novels I read in the 6th grade now... There can be a project to surgically combine characters in NDS with a ship, they're then indestructible but can only talk and sail and use, like, a mounted harpoon or something to defend their pilot if intruders board.

...and ok this is just getting silly. :P

The Brain ships, yes I remember them, I cheered for Niall Parolan when he finally gained some sense and admitted his own feelings. I felt sorry for Helva though in a way. I got rid of all the books when I found a girl that used to be a friend of mine was threatened by AM's solicitors for drawing some fan art of dragons. Pah.

I laughed out loud when I read that. Wonderful advertising! I'm sure a new player seeing that would be greatly encouraged and immediately addicted to the game.

Yeah, I did see that and thought it wasn't exactly a selling point.

Well I guess it might be useful to explain to really new players that unlike most other games, just because a character is there it doesn't mean their player is online...but yeah, it could definitely be worded better. A player that new might not even realize what the term 'awake' means anyway.

Not everyone hordes, one of my characters by the time he was 23 was given a longboat, a tandem bike and a building chucked full of of stuff that could support a town of ten for like 90 cantr years.

One of my characters has a bus full of stuff (he and his friends built it, but they've all died), and has been giving away things or trying to use stuff up for about 20 Cantr years now. His mindset is that if there are things he doesn't need that he has, why not give them away to those who do need but don't have? The bus itself is still about 40% full.
