There can never be too many shoes, just like there can never be too many clothes, and I'm gonna say it again, seriously y'all we need cowboy boots.

Are these for a certain red haired character or yours by any chance?

Marian, suggest them, and add a poll so I can vote yes!

But wingtips are just one type of brogue! Why aren't they just called brogues? They have a better name, and I've seen quite a few women wearing brogues over here recently.. maybe after a rename even Seko would wear a pair?

I like that much better, actually. Lets add that to this thread. "Wingtips" implies dancing shoes, to me, whereas "Wing-tipped dress shoes" are what's probably meant. It annoys and puzzles me. (Although almost imperceptibly so)

As soon as I get a chance to write it all out I'm planning to flood the Suggestion forum with furniture requests, sure I guess I can fit boots somewhere in there too. :)

Oh and, a thing that annoys me: Girls, stop being upset and offended that the entire town doesn't come screeching to a halt to find out what's the matter with poor you just because you *sigh* or *frown*. If you have a problem with something, spit it out.

I am both puzzled and annoyed by these lazy town leaders I see everywhere.

Mind you, I don't mean sleepy leaders by this...of course they're annoying to, but the citizens who just put up with it are equally to blame there.

By 'lazy' I mean the ones who are more or less wakeful, but can think of nothing at all to do except stand there like a robot who parcels out a few grams of iron to workers every so often, or else go inside and neglect everything to have sex for a week straight.

It's like, come on people! Didn't you have dreams as a newspawn? And now you have all these workers looking up to you and the resources of an entire town at your disposal! Take them and do something!

Kick those four boring laws to the curb and replace them with something actually interesting, declare the last day of every year Funny Hat Day, put the whole town to work building something ridiculous like a bus, make an alliance/exclusive trade agreement with another town, or deliberately piss off another town, set up an economy, set up a citizen's militia and have a patriotic poetry contest, fine anyone caught using bone tools, declare your goal to set up a functioning democracy or an island-wide trade network or a caste system or a freaking hair salon, just anything to break up the monotony and prove to people you're doing more as a leader than just holding the keys. I mean, you had an actual personality at some point in your life, right? Right? :(

I don't always agree with you on the forums - but this time I can only say "Amen!". I know a few town leaders that do things like this (including one of my own), but most do not. I always enjoy town leaders who do something unique and also setup a structure where newspawns can earn things and serve a purpose.

Agree completely. Nothing ruins a the fun of the game like a sleepy leader or a stingy one. I've complained before about people working 5 game years and still sporting bone or wooden shield when there are iron shields crumbling in a locked room. Like usually gets pointed out. You have to solve it in game. I have a rule of thumb I go by for leaving a town but have a few charries that wouldn't be opposed to just killing the key holder. I've seen a few that know this and go so far as to stay locked in a building so its harder to depose them. I won't name names but a couple Ill be happy to see people roll in and wipe the entire town out.

Been there, done that. Couldn't get anyone to participate. It's not always the leader's fault.

I agree. It's one of the reasons that my characters resist becoming leaders. (That and the fact that they sleep a lot :P ) Often town leadership means everyone standing around waiting for the leader to scratch their asses for them or to give them permission to scratch their asses. I've seen a few exceptions to this, but for the most part it seems that characters would prefer to whine and complain about the town leadership not doing anything rather than doing it themselves. In the cases where the town leader would like to proceed with a more global project, the result is often much debate, argument, and apathy from the citizenry.

Perhaps the problem is that most cantrians prefer an autocratic leader and my characters prefer a more participatory style of government.

As much as I'm annoyed by sleeping leaders that keep everything behind locked doors and are way too sleepy and/or only seem to wake up to offer intercourse (¿wtf?) when you ask for resources to keep things going in town or even be able to sew some basic garments, it's true that sometimes it's hard to find the balance that could make all townfolks happy. It's a matter of tastes, probably, and I tend to avoid leading as much as I can but all my leader chars (all the two, I mean) tried to sort things in a way that allowed inhabitants to be pretty self-sufficient in general terms so they could count on the leader (or on the several people with keys to all the "right" places) if they wanted to, but didn't need to ask for every tool or every raw resource all the time. Very few chars seemed to get engaged in that style and kept on asking "what do I do now?" "Can you get me some [insert random resource here]?" "Can you hand me some food?" so I just took it as a matter of personal preference. However, variety is the spice of life, so I'm glad there's different kind of leadership and different kind of towns but when you see charries sistematically waiting for weeks for basic tools or clothing in a fairly rich town, it's kind of disheartening.

As far as the whiny helpless types go, I've seen towns have some success cutting down on that by just taking newspawn clothes and bone tools and food and just shoving them all in a barrel for whoever, and if you need your hand held after that you're just out of luck. It's also helpful to actually put out a note once in awhile about what's actually going around in town and any work that needs doing...but the important thing is to actually update it once in awhile, it never gives me a good feeling to see an official note saying newspawns should talk to mostly dead people because no one's bothered to update it in 40 years.

I agree though it must be disheartening for the few who are putting effort into their leadership and working hard trying to get people involved in cool things just to have everyone be totally unresponsive. One day I hope I get exactly the right character in charge of a town who will call all these people out, and if things don't improve just be like, 'okay you guys suck, taking everything and disassembling all machines and loading them into my raker, peace out'.

I can see how being an active leader with sleepy citizens could be much worse that the opposite. I dont have the patience to be a town leader I guess because of this so I avoid that at all costs in game. I guess the trick is finding the right leader to go with the right citizens.

I have characters who would love to just drive away from their own towns...and they are the town leader.
