Smirking is negative, and I personally only try to use it correctly, but so many people misuse it that (at least on these sort of games) I just assume they're trying to smile without using the word smile, for whatever reason.

I have used 'smirk'. To me it is a satisfied with myself half sly grin of smugness. Sorta.. if I put words to it.. mischievous grin that says... na na.. I know it really isn't funny and I am throwing in a bit of sly sarcasm here.... Yea.. something like that..

That's what I have used a smirk for, I don't see it always negative, it's a type of thin smile.
I don't get what a "snicker" is, I giggle, but others seem to snicker which remind me of scooby doo somehow.....

Most of my characters, if I describe them smirking, it's in more of showing they are being smug or a bit of an ass while teasing or the like. And snicker... I picture a muffled hyena laugh, not a pleasant connotation for me.
The constant lip biting gets sort of annoying, for me.

Everybody's got their thing, I guess.
To me, whickering and snickering is what horses do, not people. It seems like a very exaggerated expression.
Smirking is fine, and just kind of a sarcastic smile.
I don't like giggling even when I play female characters, but then I feel like if I don't giggle once in a while I'll get noticed. (They're on to me). So I do.
I find that there are a lot of raised eyebrows in the game. That's an understandable but probably overused expression I'm guilty of using myself.
Grinning, ditto.
But people rarely guffaw, snort, chortle or whistle.
Have seen cackling done well.
Have yet to see a good flamdoodle, but I'm still young.

Definitely guilty of smirks and raised eyebrows.. and I don't think an overly bitten lip is ever a bad thing.. surely it's not an every day thing.. is it?

Yeah basically this, it's just sort of a little private laugh to yourself.

Now this just kind of makes no sense?

Re: Things that annoy or puzzle you about Cantr
Oh, and sorry for the double post, but new topic!
I am puzzled and annoyed that it isn't considered a misdemeanor in most places for a person to sit around repairing bone needles and knives when they're supposed to be working. It's like, either some asinine form of sabotage where the goal is to deliberately waste as much time as possible, or else we're just talking about criminal levels of stupidity. And yet no one ever bothers to suggest that their time might be better spent elsewhere.
On my last account, I even had a character in a town that literally dug something like 30 crumbling bone needles and knives out of storage and encouraged every citizen to work on repairing them.
(That was pretty much the defining moment of
that convinced her she needed to get the hell out of that place...)

I knew someone who used to do that, and on top of doing that...she would punish people for being "sleepy" while they repaired these bone things. They would be placed inside of a building with dead bodies and no food (this town has no natural food source) then maybe they would be released when this person felt like it. No one there was given any tools to do anything else, and they were encouraged to repair these old bone things all the time.

Re: Things that annoy or puzzle you about Cantr
It's this mentality that nothing must go to waste, even completely useless crap that would take less time to repair than make a new one. If my character is on a ship and has nothing more to do than repair bone tools then I do it, but otherwise I tell people to let them rot and make new ones.

Most people use smirk to mean a wry grin. It's a case where the population's understanding of the word has shifted away from the definition in some areas of the world.

Honestly you probably don't, I've never actually been around to see anybody shove a wheelbarrow into a duffle bag, your post just brought up the mental image of that scene with the carpet bag and I couldn't let it pass.
