Then I suppose the techniques and procedures of roleplaying earlier sickness and curing it would become 'outdated' in-game and would change to accommodate the new diseases.

I guess you're right. Come to think of it, we (IRL) do not drill holes in the skull of sick people to let evil spirits out anymore, so it's probably just a natural evolution of things. At least in this case. :)

I think it would add roleplay and interactions if characters mechanically broke and needed various fixes :)

I can think of a number of characters (or players all characters) who seriously needs their tongues cut off, just from having a char near a radio now and then. That would be #1 priority if I had a doctor character.
