Well, that's what you get, when five chars at the same time expect you to participate in separate conversations... (well, this is a bit more than really happens, but I can get hugely annoyed by people in a complex (or at least occupying) RP-situation (I don't know, swimming, pillowfights?) in the middle of which they suddenly get whispered to, by someone not even close, and they even answer! :x )

Time is limited. Stories would be forced to go even slower if people couldn't respond whenever they have the opportunity.

I suppose in this, we have a different opinion, then ;)

Something that's been bother me this week is the long length of time it takes for someone to get an account on Cantr.

I got someone to sign up well over 48 hrs ago, and unless they got the account created in the last hour or two since I spoke with the person, it's still not ready.

In an age where most online computer games grant instant access, to wait days and days for an account will often turn people off from ever getting started. I'm not blaming staff as I know they're volunteers with real lives of their own, but in a time when it seems the player base keeps dwindling I think this should be a priority.

Instead of adding new features and such to the game, could the developers write scripts and such that could help speed up the research it takes to allow an account to be created? I just feel the game is shooting itself in the foot, as I suspect we're losing people before they even get started.

It annoys me that I end up writing at least a full six sentence paragraph for every post, most of the time, sort of... because it makes me feel like I'm the annoying one! Bah. :|

I can never think of that much to say/do. Kudos :P I have a hard enough time sitting still to write two sentences.

I guess this isn't about game mechanics or even other players so much as myself. It annoys -and- puzzles me that I cannot always separate myself from my characters. Normally this is because of some exciting or dangerous situation that causes RL excitement or anxiety. But today I let my emotions and personal out of game feelings pour out through a character. I'm not saying the character didn't/wouldn't share those same feelings but at one point even though I was talking as the character and putting it in context of that character's situation, I was clearly (to me and maybe to others) voicing my personal RL opinion on the matter at hand for the character. I don't even know if this is the right place for this so moderators feel free to move or delete but this has been bothering me for way too many hours and I need to write it down and get it out.
And when I walk I'm a cyclone
You should see it get rolling
Open my heart and emotions rip out of me
My emotions rip out of me

I think that is actually not to uncommon, catwill. While this game is a roleplaying game and we typically all try to play out our characters as unique personalities, those personalities are typically at least somewhat shaped by the experience and value set of the player. While I typically let my character's experiences shape their personality, when my characters lack experience in a certain area, my personal values will often shape my character's.

For example, one of my characters recently was flirted with by a girl who was taken, and dating someone he considers to be his best friend. My character is young and besides for pinning hard after a crush, he has had no experience in love. While a part of him wanted to pursue being seduced, my personal value of valuing manogomy when in a relationship caused me to make my character resist. Had my character had a history of womanizing or of being spurned in relationships, I would have RPed it a different way, but in the absence of character experience, I choose to transpose my own values on my character in the absence of an IC excuse to act differently.

With my girls, or one in particular, it goes the opposite way: her moods affect mine. I've just gotten out of a depressed emotional slump that lasted over two weeks, and I'm pretty sure I can blame it on her.

With my guys, unless there's external forces shaping their personalities, they all just become idealized versions of me if left on their own. But, I also have near-complete emotional detachment from them (which is why it's probably so hard to "individualize" them).

As far a culturally/morally, I've been playing Cantr long enough that Cantr's morality has replaced my morality in regards to my characters. If I were to make a new character, instead of coming into the world with my RL biases, he'd be coming into the world with Cantr's biases. I'm very keen on separating out RL culture from Cantr culture. One of my personal pet peeves are how similar most Cantr weddings are to RL ones. It didn't bother me when I was a new player, but it does now. I also try to "cantrize" RL language expressions that may not quite fit the Cantr world.

I've tried doing that, too. I find it quite difficult. Especially when expresisng frustration or dissapointed shock. Damn, hell, geeze, jesus, christ, all of these words are rooted in, well, RL religion. And my characters, at least, live in places where religion is only mentioned in passing, and has no influence on the language.

When things are taken differently than what they're suppose to be taken. Thus upsetting you and others. @_@ Aka: the evil assumption word. And yes, I've done it many times and in the end it makes me feel like absolute crap. XP

And Doug, totally know how you feel. Sometimes my charris moods affect mine too. Like right now. >< Need...distraction...

This... I struggle with it, though, and how far I should take it... I mean, how about a word like "platonic"? Cantr didn't have a Plato philosophising about love...
