How do most romances start for your characters?
I'm just wondering. Do your characters usually have romances with others that they work with a lot? Love at first sight? Or just how do they usually fall for each other on Cantr? I was just curious
It always seems like there are so many cantr couples!

Re: How do most romances start for your characters?
Though it might seem like there are so many cantr couples, I think it's not -that- much. I just saw a statistic that 57% of people in the US are married, and doesn't even include people in other relationships (just googled, and found a guess of 36% of the people are single). I think that's about as much as Cantrians, I think, maybe Cantrians even have -less- relationships.... For example, at the moment, I have 6 chars in a relationship, out of 15, which is much less than the 64% they claim in the guess
. So, I don't think there's so -many- couples.
Besides that, I think my char's relationships just "happened". During a resource trip or some kind of other long-term being together. Or some other way of growing closer as friends, then seeing they like each other a lot
. Also, I think my char's seem to want to protect 'weaker' chars... They have or had girl/boyfriends that have some kind of problem, or are sick, or something like that, so I guess that's a way too. Wanting to take care of someone who seems to need it, or something like that.

Re: How do most romances start for your characters?
They just happen. Randomly. If happens. It all depends on roleplay, character chemistry and events. Just like some personalities match very well and the others very bad. Sometimes Deadly bad. Mostly, my characters just play along with and see where the flirting and such leads.
Likeliness to get into such a roleplay depends on your characters.
Playing a shy male/female with no personal traits is unlikely to found his/her partner.
I have two of my fifteen characters in relatioship of some sort.

They don't.

Re: How do most romances start for your characters?
Warning, there might be tmi in this post.
One of my characters grew interested in someone he saved from an exploiting employer, who barely paid her for anything, although that was probably mostly due to sleepiness. He convinced her to kill the employer with his assistance, then there was some sort of an emotional connection, although it didn't lead into anything since she died soon after. Someone else comforted him after his loss and he felt attracted to her, so they started dating and eventually got married.
Another character was and maybe still is on some level, very cold and calculative, caring for wealth more than love. That lifestyle was eating her up inside, leading into depression, then she met someone who could see through that shell and became her first love. They were soon separated against their will and were never able to find each other again. Decades later, she met someone else, who cared for her after she was attacked by an animal, and they formed a special connection. Later an old friend came to visit, and they both felt attracted to her, so they took her as the third person in their relationship. There was also a male friend who was very supportive and kind, always there for her when she needed him, so one time when she thought someone was planning to kill her, she didn't want to die without experiencing a moment of intimacy with him. Then it turned out that the person didn't want to kill her after all, so they continued their relationship as a foursome, until the first partner accidentally died of starvation. The remaining trio is still together.
Another character first fell in love as a newspawn, with pretty much the only person in town who was awake regularly. They hunted together pretty much every day, and shared a weapon because she didn't have one. Later they built a boat together. They had sex but she wasn't quite ready for it, or not sure what to expect from it or what to do, so it hurt more than she could enjoy. Later he died and she was very sad. This older woman comforted her, but then for some reason it lead into my character being invited to watch the older woman have sex with her boyfriend, and they thought she wanted to participate even though she was mortified. She did things to her that she wasn't ready for. My character was disturbed afterwards and a nice older guy came to her rescue and said she could sail with him and his wife, and they would never touch her inappropriately against her will. And he kept his word on that. Eventually she grew to love him, and confessed it to him. The wife was a bit jealous at first but they ended up having a three-way relationship. Later the wife died, so my character ended up becoming his second wife later on. They picked up a couple of girls and everybody had sex with everybody, some more than others. My character and one of the girls started feeling like sex was more of an obligation, so there was trouble. The man died, and soon the woman who only seemed to live for sex started showing signs of starvation and no signs of waking up, so we let her starve to death. Now the remaining two women continue sailing alone and haven't had sex since, although sometimes they talk flirty just to annoy each other.
Yet another character first came to love someone who was socially awkward, just like himself. They had an awkward first sex experience that probably traumatized both of them. Soon after she left with someone else, which made him crushed and jealous. He traveled aimlessly, until randomly finding her again years later. At first she was happy to see him, but then they realized it would never work out, and she was starving herself, so he assisted her to commit suicide. Later he found someone else, who apparently doesn't want to have sex at all, which is an issue for him, even though he's only had it once and that was awkward. He's hoping to have a better experience eventually. Oh, and he doesn't know what sex is called because he was spawned without the knowledge.
One of my young characters felt terribly attracted to a woman who was nice to him, but he was shy, so for a long time nothing happened, until they happened to be alone in a room and he dared to ask her if it's normal for a man to go hard because he's never seen it happen to anyone else. It turned out she's rather bold when it comes to sex.
One of my old characters has been in love several times, with people of both sexes. I won't go into details. It's often just a matter of personal chemistry and happening to be together and start talking.
And some of my characters just can't get a relationship for some reason. It's annoying that it's so easy for some of them, yet others are in their fifties and never been loved.

Re: How do most romances start for your characters?
*tallies*
My eldest male fell in love (or so he thinks) with this one character. She'd been travelling for some time when they arrived in the town he lived in. She left but then came back, and he was there to comfort or whatever when her travelling partner died. They got together, and after many resource runs together decided to get married. But then real life interfered for me, and I couldn't play him properly, and that drove them apart. He became possessive and whatnot...and it was awkward, and they eventually broke up. His second love interest had died by then, so he felt alone. Finally a new opportunity arose when a group got together to establish a new town, and she and he went. But she fell asleep and died there. He was devastated. Shortly afterwards, the leader of the new town packed up and sailed off with a coupled of women, saying he probably wouldn't be back. After that, my character starved himself. He died a virgin.
My eldest female spawned, fell in love with someone who didn't, couldn't, love her back. So then she went chasing after another guy, flirting and making it very obvious she liked him. They got together and then went on a resource run with another couple. They were running late, so when the guy in the second couple showed up, he was alone, claiming that his girlfriend had died. They continued on, and my character and her boyfriend came close to having sex several times but were stopped for various reasons: the first time he was too nervous and she made him calm down. The second time a foreplay event was accidentally said publicly and mine got embarrassed and refused to go further along. Finally he proposed to her, and she happily accepted. But then there was an attack and third person died (fourth person had spawned by then) and fiance decided he couldn't continue life as he was and decided to starve himself, and my character cried and I cried and it was a mess. Somehow later my character convinced him to stay alive. And thus came the third time, which failed for him was because he was ill and acting like he could barely stand up, and my character was like, "If you can hardly stand up as it is, how do you expect to be able to pleasure me?" Or something like that. (This is also when I finally told him I was a minor, and he was mortified.) They travelled back towards town but we lost fourth person and decided to take a detour west even though we were low on food 'n stuff. Then Cantr got hacked and Cantr went down for three months. After that they made it to town, but his player didn't come back, and she ended up killing him because she couldn't stand to watch him be mauled by animals. After some time in an empty place where she healed and loaded up on spinach and began rationing food via a wooden plate, she spent a long time walking back (she was carrying more than 15k at the time) and finally returned home. After that she harbored a secret love for the first man she had loved, but he was with someone else. Years later, his love disappeared, and years after that he went after her, and she never saw him again. Now he's dead. She hasn't loved anyone since. She's still a virgin.
Snick has been with nobody but has been interested in people. Nothing has ever come from those interests.
My fourth character has had people interested in her, but she has failed to return the interest.
Fifth was romantically interested in several people, but again, nothing ever came of them.
Sixth, currently my only living male, was infatuated with someone from the moment he saw her in the place while he was on a resource run. He got to know her and tried to win her over but she wouldn't go back with him, so he kept making runs out there just to be able to see her, and he loved her. Then one time, he had to go on a resource run to a different part of the island, and when he came back he found her there, different, wounded. He was angry that he couldn't have been there to defend her, but relieved that she was alive. And he still loved her, even if she was different. He helped her heal, they went places together (he showed her the ocean), and... he's always cared for her. They became bf/gf. He, of course, didn't give all the credit to himself though. He had a friend from when he spawned, another woman whom he might have been interested in romantically if his gf didn't exist, and he considered her the best person for him to talk to about his gf, how to approach her on things, and other womanly stuff. Some time later, though, gf's became busy in RL and she slept to death, and he was devastated for a long time. It's probably the best turnout of any romantic end I've ever had with my characters. He was planning to ask her to marry him. He just needed the town tandem to go get gold and have it fashioned into a ring. But it never happened.
Seventh had an interest she didn't understand in a few people, but they either turned away from her for other reasons or they were killed.
Eighth was never meant to be a lover of any sort, although one character did manage to arouse him once. Things became awkward after that. I imagine he would've been funny in bed, though, had he lived on to find a romantic relationship after my 18th birthday.
Ninth was also never meant to be a lover of any sort. Nothing has happened. Ever.
Tenth is the only character of mine who is not a virgin. She had gone down to a Polish town to trade and gather resources, and while there one of the guys with her took a liking to her. One thing led to another, and they went up the coast and did it (fade to black, of course) a few times, and then a bear attacked and they had to go back. They were never the same after that, and after he died she... I don't know what happened to her. She was upset because she thought she had only really liked him for sex. Or something like that. Anyway, she hasn't been with anyone since, and the person she is interested in now has a girlfriend/wife/whateversheis. She's probably my most sexually curious character and would be open to a threesome, but thinks they're a bit too righteous to want that, so she has never approached them on that subject. Or any subject relating to romance.
Eleventh never knew what love was. The closest thing she had ever gotten was when someone blindfolded her and led her around to a haystack in an attempt to restore one of her other senses, and he had kissed her I think, but nothing ever came of it. She wondered about him the rest of her life, but never made the connection that they might've loved each other.
Twelfth....eugh. Prefiero que no hablar de él.
Thirteenth had romantic interest, but nothing ever came of it, and she pretty much died when her interest died even though she'd stayed alive for awhile.
Fourteenth sleeps too much for romance. lol

My characters' relationships sort of just happen. A few of my characters are more forward than the others and seek them out. Some just happen into them. Haha. I've had a large variety of relationships and am maybe about to get one of my guys involved with another guy. That'll be new, I don't really see m/m relationships in Cantr much. Maybe two or three in the past few years.

I guess he wasn't as articulate about it with her as he was with his gf.

My characters always have the worst luck. Out of 11 current ones, only one is in a relationship.
Most fall for someone who dies before they can make a move, or they fall for someone who can't return those feels. So, things always move slowly, except for my characters that are a bit too eager, and that always ends tragically. This is a bit depressing.
