Re: Thinking about quitting.....
There has always been a confirmation, but back in the old days there was just a popup that said are you sure? and that lead into a player accidentally unsubbing themselves by doubleclicking what they thought was the log out button. It lead into it being changed so that you need to enter your password in order to unsub. That way no one can do it accidentally.

There is an accepted suggestion (I think, or it might just be a GAB discussion) about a grace period of 5 days, when you can regret the blasphemy of hitting the X, and characters will not die until after 5 days.

And there's also a suggestion about moving the turn reports so they are not so close to the X-button

5 days sounds like a long time. 2 days would be better.

Everybody is thinking about quitting (or actually doing it) when I am thinking about coming back. Is there anyone left to play with? And would I be stoned for quitting in the first place if I came back?

Cantr relapse is always accepted by the community. We're just like drug users or religious cults. Just based on the level of pointless radio chatter there's plenty of activity to be found in the English region, at least. I've been thinking about starting a new German character to see how that corner of the world is faring.

Thanky Wichita, maybe I should start one of each so you wouldn't be so lonely ... I remember that not a lot was going on when I left the last time, but maybe I had just not found the active city yet.

I'm quite sure I'm not quitting... Does that help?

I don't think I'm ever going to quit. I've already been here for 9 years.

I've been back for around 230 cantr days (don't know how long that is) and if I continue at my current character level I shall not either.

I've never had full 15 but I think I might get there eventually. The world is so much wider than when I first started. Back then there were pretty much just two or three known islands.

Re: Thinking about quitting.....
I am going to go way out on a limb and suggest that there is something to be gotten out of Cantr that can't usually be had in most people's day to day lives. Not that it is a bad thing: sorry honey, I can't pick the kids up from soccer practice, I have to go raid an unprotected small town sitting on a boatload of iron. But other than it's just awesome fun, it allows for opportunity to "do" things most people in their lives never will. Okay, now that I've projected my own issues for awhile, here's the thing: how do people with 15 characters manage their day to day lives? I have three and even when I had one, well, Cantr is just so addicting it makes it hard for me to focus as much on other things I should be focusing on instead. I don't want to quit, but I am struggling to do all the things I need to do to make my actual life successful. Is this something all new players go through? Will the siren song of the green world quiet over time?

Either you learn to control it or it learns to control you!!!!! On a more serious tone, yes, new players often have trouble balancing things properly. From personal experience I can say that eventually Cantr will hit a slow patch (ex: when you go on that resource run to build all the materials you need to equip your army or company or town, though this can take a while to happen depending on close you are to 15) and you'll concentrate on RL more. It oscillated for me towards too much and too little activity till I was able to reach that sweet spot of just the right amount.
