An Idea I have

If you were to make a dinghy and a raker and build a fishing net from the dinghy and a solar still and salting barrel on the raker and keep the dinghy docked to the raker, would it make it a self sufficient sailing vessel that you didn't have to worry about food from?

Or can you not sail with a boat docked to you? I haven't done any sailing with any of my characters at all so I don't know how it works.

In theory it could work. You can sail with docked ships. You would have to undock the dinghy to fish from it though.

So if I have to undock to fish would my raker float away or could I reasonably fish to keep myself alive on a very long voyage?

Vessels need a character on them to move, so even when you steer the wheel and set speed if noone is on deck in the advance turn the ship will stay on the same spot.

Yep, don't forget the sails. If you're gonna live on the sea you'll need them.

And don't forget you will need help from someone else to be able to dock the small boat to the ship as that has to be done out on the sea.
