Odd behavior in Krif

Postby The Industriallist » Sat Sep 18, 2004 2:25 am

943-8: You see Aelfric Eynsham (a man in his twenties) leaving Krif, taking Krif Road to Krif Hills (west).

943-8: Aelfric Eynsham (a man in his twenties) says: "*takes an even deeper breath, his gaze fixed on a glittering whiteness far beyond the hills and almost lost in the haze, croons to himself.. (Pok, my beloved dreams of Pok, where every day solitary men awake from their slumbers and smell the scent of mountains and freedom) ... *declaims passionately..* Only there, where republics cease, does the man who is not superfluous begin; does the song of the necessary man, the unique and irreplaceable melody begin. There, where republics cease - Do you not see it; the rainbow and the bridges to the Freeman? ... *counts carefully his small collection of carrots* (one carrot, two, three...) *hesitates a moment, looking unsure* ... *looks towards the fields, then very loudly..* NO! No more of this! My name is Nothing Special. *resolutely he marches towards the hills*"

943-8: Aelfric Eynsham (a man in his twenties) says: "*walks among the laboring peasants, pausing occasionally to stare deep into their eyes, much as a man of medicine would, mutters..* (no spark, little life at all) *faces the hills and takes a deep breath, says to himself..* (just a hint of a forest peeking through the clefts far beyond there, for I smell its pungent vibrant life; somewhere I might make...) *pushes his left shoulder forward and adjusts his elbow, the stance of a man bearing the weight of a wooden shield* ... *then with both hands he mimics drawing a bow, says more loudly..* And live like a Man!"

943-8: Aelfric Eynsham (a man in his twenties) says: "*stares towards those remaining of the glittering, over-beweaponed aristocracy and makes motions of counting..* (one saber, two, three...) *finishes and sucks his thumb, exclaims..* THAT much steel?? *runs frantically back and forth checking behind buildings* ... *returns at last looking dejected, mutters..* (definitely no carrot harvester that I can see) *stares with puzzled frown at someone holding a dung-fork and collecting tomatoes* ... *stares at those collecting carrots without tools* ... *glances towards the hills* ... *scratches his head and seems lost in thought, says to himself..* (Is this how HE would organize a town?)"

943-8: Aelfric Eynsham (a man in his twenties) says: "*mutters..* (so often did I hear `Gary, I believe...` or `John, I think...`, and even many motions of hugging John, but not once in this place was there any sign of those small and friendly personal touches which allowed me to identify this Hit-by-Calliou woman. No personal loyalties, no intimacy? And with this they face the man who mourns his dead wife and befriends the wolves themselves, the man whom even Gary Drenth respects with such passion?)"

943-8: Aelfric Eynsham (a man in his twenties) says: "*nods to Joram Traske and Andersen, mutters..* (at least they greeted me) *salutes respectfully the man he knows as John Locke* ... *recoils in horror from the woman he knows only as Hit-by-Calliou, lest her foamy spittle should fly in his direction* ... *grins and flourishes a playful bow in the direction of the prison* ... *bows with a deep respect bordering on adulation towards the Hills in the direction where he last saw the disappearing back of the man he knows as Gary Drenth* "

943-8: Aelfric Eynsham (a man in his twenties) says: "*points to a woman he knows only as Jeered-At-Me, mutters..* (treating spawnlings with snickers of contempt, and failing to introduce oneself, doth not a town or community make)"

943-8: You see Aelfric Eynsham (a man in his twenties) pointing at Finch (a woman in her thirties).

943-8: You see Aelfric Eynsham (a man in his twenties) drop some carrots.

943-8: Aelfric Eynsham (a man in his twenties) says: "*mutters to himself..* (ah, the aristocracy have gone back to whispering, lest the peasants become overexcited) *carefully, replaces 40 carrots, mumbling..* (all I ever took from this town on my very first day in 941)"

I don't think there's any way he's ever been to Pok...

I hate to sound like a stickler here, but isn't posting this publicly a violation of the 4 day rule at the very least?

It seems like a lot of information is conveyed in this post.....kind of like a telephone call

Reproting things like bugs, possible CR breaches, etc. are exempt from the 4 day rule.

However, if there is any question, the possible breach can always just be emailed to players@cantr.net

Even if there's not technically anything wrong with that, maybe in the future some kind of rule against excessive melodrama could be implemented?

(Okay, I'm mean, I know. I'll stop now...)

As long as he didn't break any rule I found it quite refreshing...I admit, a bit irritating, but still refreshing

I agree, Pirog. It's nice to see someone putting some effort into their rp, even if it is an unusual style, and a tad hard to read.

With all due respect, I've a little newspawn lost and forlorn somewhere in the Baaak Hills who dreams of rubber to help finish his master's bike. He already knowns it's in Pl**k** and Pl*k***r thanks to the Treefeather map which he found in a trash bin. He's very excited, but not sure--maybe it's too far--but then he too would like to dream...

As for melodrama, the passage is a kinda like a bad novel. It parodies itself and certain roleplay elements in the way bad novels parody literature. But then are there not people too who do this? Was not Rasputin a sort of self-parody of how early 20th Century Russia functioned and what it believed? Remember, he was a peasant. We have many modern near self-parodies, Donald Trump... certain televangelists... Hmmm, much less interesting than Rasputin though.

Finally, the context should be examined. What is the situation in Krif? Have people been talking about the hills much, or perhaps now and again what lies beyond? Has there been uproar and drama at all? Did this would-be solitary mystic experience something to set him off? Why does he feel such hatred for town life? Why does he recoil from this woman he calls Hit-by-Calliou? Who was Calliou and why did he hit the woman? Did Calliou make a speech before hitting her and what happened to him?

All this is of interest to a sociologist. :)

Sorry to shoot down your hopes, but I would say he was annoyed because he had made some witless suggestions and been jeered at. And I can assure you, no one was talking about Pok.

It could be valid RP, though. Even a newspawn could think that way, with the right mindset.
