how much is character worth ... in items?
recently I killed one of my characters because he was too hurt (due to wild animals' attacks), and healing him would consume too much of his town's resources, therefore I decided that it would be better for him to die, than to set back the others
still, how much is character worth ... ? I don't even know what would be a good currency - days of work? iron? healing food?
how much would your town sacrifice to get (totally randomly chosen) new character?

Are talking of a thief or a town leader here?
In my experience, the role of the character means a lot.

that's totally something I'd like to avoid
just imagine that you insert X resources & time into magical project that causes a newspawn to spawn, with all the chances for leader as well as thief in normal life
EDIT:
but I think we can stick to fairly "normal" workers - not causing bigger problems, not running away with your ship, but also not super-active or powerful

Still, it depends a lot about which place you're talking.... In Dom Hofran or the like, probably not so much, but there are enough small villages that would do like, -a lot- for a newspawn or two.

I would always vote for anyway to control de spawn system better. But if it were around items, I think it would screw up some of my understanding of the cantr world. But anyway, if the questions is what would I give to get a random new char in my town, my answer is depends on the town. On the small or the ones with big plans, I'd give anything that I could get my hands on. On other big towns or where we just got enough people, I'd do the opposite. I would give items away so I do NOT get newspawns.

I -do- believe it's a hypothetical question, so don't worry about your understanding of the cantr world

It is worth an incredible amount of stuff.... Why? Theoretically a char can live forever and gather more than whatever price you put on his head.

In most of the towns I'd say 500g of iron, 500g of wood, 500g of hemp or cotton, 500g of cooked food, plus stone and bones etc.
Even in the poorest towns with limited animal products, ten days of a local resource at least.
Now, for one that is active once a day and actually works or even better thinks for themselves, triple all that and more.

I'm just rambling since the forum has been so quiet.

Would he, though? The average charrie is a sleeping charrie. I certainly wouldn't give up an "incredible amount of stuff" only to see that char die out 90 days later of a heart attack.

This is kind of a difficult question because newspawns can vary so much, no telling if they leave immediately or never even wake up long enough to give their name. A reasonably active one who's willing to stick it out where they spawned is basically priceless as far as I've seen though.

The value of a life is another life.
An eye for an eye. Take it and lose it.
If increased spawning is a desire, then its worth more than the food it takes to feed it.
If they are carrying keys, or wearing a ring that you want and you are murderous. Worth about 3 days worth of attacking.
Isn't this a rather grim discussion. Most chars still place a value, regardless of the state of their spirit. A pirate may not have alot of value for the lives of his victims, but his crew... its still another pirate. But that life may mean something to someone.
