I was curious to know who played Jaina in Kiii. That worked out pretty well in the end.
In general it keeps life simpler if the players are anonymous. It was always more fun chatting in IRC without feeling like I was being mined for CRB fodder through some form of mafia codespeak.

Here's the thing.... it's not so much about knowing as it is what is done with the information.
In the past I've known the players of characters and even currently I know the players of some characters around mine. And indeed I know a number of players who I like a great deal and sometimes interact with outside of the game. And I'm glad I know them
But there are some people who have a hard time with the boundaries between character versus player, game versus reality, etc etc.... and that's where it gets all wonky. I try to avoid wonkiness when at all possible because it ruins the game for me, personally.
