People often say to me 'meh meh meh, we don't hate anyone, it's bad!'
I always say "Well you SHOULD! makes life more fun..."

Then you either don't truly know what hate feels like, or you don't know what fun is.

Hate is not a joking matter. Ask anyone on the other end of it.

What if you look at it this way:

It still is fictional charachters written by real persons. Everyone are writing in the same book. Some only writes a couple of lines in the book. Some carefully writes chapter after chapter.

And then there comes a person who tears away all the pages you have been writing out of the book. They destroy every word, every sentence and laughs.

Or they give you a new storyline with an opportunity for you to take and go with it.

For goodness sake all the talk about hating players behind the characters simply because a situation did not go your way in game and events change is ridiculous. Get over it, play with the new storyline you're given and move on. That's the risks you take when you play an online GAME (and yes, some of you do not seem to get it's a game). But you make the choice to continue playing when you know the risk that there are others behind those other characters you have nothing to do with how they act and what they do. Yet, you still choose to play. I've been in the same situation and while yes, it can be frustrating, it opens up an opportunity for the storyline to move in a different direction if you' are willing to open your eyes and see it. YOUR story, is not the only story in game. Sometimes an event or action that is taken you do not like helps advance another's storyline. The cantr world does not revolve around a single player and their wants and wishes. Things happen, Deal with it and get over it. Move on to another story or another purpose. And I personally find the hatred issue on this matter as offensive and irritating as Doug sees it. It's ridiculous.

It is difficult to know the intent of the people behind the characters; that is why hating them without knowing them is ridiculous. The person that is "hated" for the way the character is played may have no idea that other players behind other characters don't see it as adding to the story.

One of the best lines I've ever seen in a community guideline for a game:
Avoid assuming bad intentions in other players: some of them will think differently than you; or English might not be their first language; or their kid will have spilled a glass of milk on the cat a second ago; or they might not understand the particular nuances with which you play. Or … who knows? A willingness to forgive will go a long way, especially when directed towards new players who might not yet have fully learned what effects their actions have on others.

People are entitled to their own feelings but I do find it incredibly disturbing that someone might want to do horrible things to me based on what one of my characters has done. Would you honestly attack an actor because a role they were playing did something you didn't like?

Warning for anyone my characters have offended/upset: I have two doberman dogs, a mean cat, guns, watchful neighbors, and as soon as I can afford it, video surveillance.

And I have a team of mind-reading specialists and a series of V2 rockets ready to launch if anyone even thinks about doing something to me because of something my chars did...

Guess this makes me addicted huh?

lol interesting discussion. i know i have chars that have offended some other ppl's chars in game while other chars of mine go well in the story of some of those same chars i have offended lol

i do play extreemes. some chars of mine have animosity to chars for being non english while other chars of mine have done everyhting they can to embrace people of different languages.
i've also played some thieves/pirates and on the other side of the coin, played some 100% pure trustworthy souls (Man Animal)

It's probably a pretty good indication that you're addicted to Cantr when you find yourself feeling jealous of your characters' social lives, isn't it? :?

...when you go out and find yourself in a bar, sitting on your friend's lap after asking him to lend you his phone because playing cantr from yours is a nightmare.

And it gets kind of worst when you are happy you're home because that means curling up in bed with the laptop!

On the bright side of the addiction: we'll have a new player [insert evil laugh here]

...when you worry that you committed a CRB in your dream because somebody was planning on attacking a town and you said, "But there's nothing worth taking in that town," and then freak out because you're not that character in that town and so you shouldn't even know that.

...
Yeah.
It really happened.

I had a similar thing where I dreamt I said something in Spanish despite none of my chars being in much of a position to know the language.
