Society

Postby trage » Sat Sep 11, 2004 8:28 pm

I have noticed that people tend to hide so many things from people based on society's standards and because of the fact that people refuse to accept things, like the gay marriage laws in the USA right now, just because society does not want to accept them they outcast those who are not like them. I am wondering who if any of you have one of those secrets because of society's standards, I know I do.

To put it bluntly, I am a crossdresser. Post what you think here, I know I am still young and probably don't understand these things as well as some of you, but that is just my point of view.

I think it is VERY brave of you to post that information on here. I am not sure why you feel the need to share it here on the forum except maybe to gain acceptance for the real you. Whatever makes you happy is my view.

What anyone does is their own choice, as long it doesn't affect anyone else negatively.

I know someone who's about to complete their sex change. I have no problem with that whatsoever. They seem happy.

Most people I know have completely different viewpoints...

I get the feeling that trage is trying to trick us into revealing secrets by making up one for himself...but if it is true it would be fine with me.

As long as peoples sexual or social behavior doesn't bring harm or great nuisance to others I say go ahead...
As for my own dirty secrets I will just keep them for myself for now

Oh, and by the way...a society that puts a lot of energy and effort into hiding or preventing "unnatural" behavior usually gives birth to much more "perverse" behavior than they try to stop from the beginning.

Main stream society has problems, but the subcultures (goth and furry) I feel part of don't. I wear make-up, skirts, bdsm stuff, fur tails and a whole host of other things. I have a bf and a gf. None of my friends care, but the masses always find it wrong.

When I first posted this topic I was asking for people's opinions on society, what they think is wrong and what could be done to better it, I wanted to know opinions on what people think and felt should be done for problems such as these because people refuse to accept things. Obviously people have (at least so far) shown me that people here can accept things without being immature, then again, obviously, not everyone has read this topic yet. I honestly think that people are too focused on their own opinions to be able to accept those of other people, they will be closed-minded and just don't want to listen to others. Please just post what you think. So far no one has.

Edit: Oh and I don't feel I need to share this information, I just felt that you people would be mature enough to accept it *shrug*.

What I think

Postby SekoETC » Sun Sep 12, 2004 1:33 pm

I don't give a damn about the society. True, the mass hates everything different. People have reasons for thinking a certain way about things but what makes the mass think some way is harder to define.
Crossdressers... In the media they only show ugly hairy men with fake boobs and too much make-up. No wonder people freak out when they hear you're like that. And then people think crossdresser equals transsexual equals gay. Mostly it isn't true. But that's what goes in a person's head when they hear it. Nowadays the barrier between sexes is vanishing. There are lots of androgynous men for example in metal bands. Women wear pants and neckties, some have no tits. Like I've said before, sexuality is a line, not two dots you have to select from.
About gay marriages, it's not alright, but nothing is perfect. Single parenting ain't right either. Staying together when you don't fit together is also harmful to the kids. In ER tv series there's now Kerry Weaver the lesbian fighting to get custody of her child. I don't think her homosexuality is so much of an issue but the fact that she's all alone and working too hard to have time to take care of her son.

Pls define "the society".

I have the feeling most ppl would think the way I do, which is: "I don't give a shit abt what you do at home, as long as you dont do it in my front garden (Or hurt anyone with whatever you're doing)".

The society however, (is my personal opinion) is often defined by a minority who yells loudest how unacceptable it is and how our (western) society is falling into a rapid moral decay. Usually the masses who don't really care and dont mind your little vices dont speak up, or do not dare to do say, afraid of being "crucified" by the first group. (Popular example: how 1 person in the local bar talks about how he hate's gay's and the other 10 agree, not minding gays at all, but afraid to be called gays themselves or gay'-overs at the very least. And usually no one has the guts to speak up).

About crossdressing: Bishops and other religions's priests beat you to it by atleast a few 100 years and got away with it. I doubt they wear garters tho, or C-thru panties, but they wear dresses nevertheless.

And some people just completely ignore the fanatical people who criticise everyone and everything, and get on with our lives.

I've always felt contemptuous of homophobes and similar.

As has been said, however, the anti-anything groups are generally the most vocal, and the human-sheep among us generally follow their lead.

Let's not forget that the Western world has a very long and strong tradition of trying to distance ourself from the animals nad becoming enlightened by means of discipline.
With all the structures of behavior people will more easily fall outside the "form" and thus be considered unnatural.

Christianity is also to blame for a lot...

No objections from me... one of my friends is going to be transsexual, several of them are gay... actually most gay men are nicer to be around, from a female point of view.

@ pirog: Our society (especially the netherlands and scandinavian country's) have been trying to get rid of those outdated social structures. Our modern defenition of "enlightenment" is too see all people as equals, no matter what race, religion, sex etc etc.
So yeah, we've got a long way before us as it stands now, with all the intolerance.

POw yea, Trage asked us to share our li'l secrets. Well, apart from being a bit weird, I have none.
Yeah, I love black lingerie, but not on men to be honest.

And from a man's point of view: Gays are not nicer to have around. Their kind of... persistent. Very.
