sex, sneak thieves, and cheats
Does anyone know how to actually roleplay anymore...? That's all I see anymore in cantr. Charies spending months having sex, players trying to work the game mech so they can sneak thief all they want, and cheats. What is happening to the game I so loved?
Sorry if I'm venting but otherwise I would end up deleting my account, while I'm pissed off and know I need to calm down before I allow for anything like that.

Somehow you strayed and lost your way,
and now there'll be no time to play,
no time for joy,
no time for friends
- not even time to make amends.
You are too naïve if you do believe life is innocent laughter and fun.

1. What's wrong with months of sex?
2. I haven't seen any of that happen, but I'm new-ish.

I see sex as something that comes natural with the game.. You RP people, and none of my chars has more sex than i do in real life so... *shrugs* Sometimes people use cantr for their fantasies though...
Anyway, you can play chars who don't like sex or something.. Fill it in, you're in control!

But, yeah, I can understand where you're coming from, g1asswa1ker. There's not really any... culture, in my opinion.

Re: sex, sneak thieves, and cheats
I see lots of non-sexual, non-cheat-thief RP. In fact, I don't see any thief RP very often, bad or good.
As far as private RP sessions, I suppose it depends on the situation and how the characters relate to others. Some characters are very private and don't want to put all their problems/situations out on display for the world. It is nice though if they are good at balancing the important things they don't want to show to the world and putting some general RP (or obvious physical gestures related to what they're being private about) out there for people to work with. But it doesn't/shouldn't all fall on one character to make that effort.

Hmm.... I haven't seen a whole lot of what you're talking about, glasswalker. Certainly not the sneak thief and cheat stuff. Too much sleeping more than anything else.
The private rp sessions are an issue, I agree. I think we all have a responsibility to contribute to the overall experience and story for everyone. Which means that all of our rp can't be private. The more intimate types of rp should be, of course... probably best not done in the middle of the town square. But most everything else that does occur in the middle of town should be open season at some level.

Really you haven't noticed the rampancy of charies busting locks simply because no one is in a town or location? I can't even count as many times as I've noticed it with my two hands and trust me I can count a lot higher then ten with just my hands. A trick that most in this world can't even fatham.

Oh... well, sure. I've seen that. In fact, a few of my characters have actually done it. I mean wander from empty abandoned town to empty abandoned town with no signs of life... with numerous vehicles and buildings sitting there languishing.... Why should they not assume that the occupants or owners are long dead?

Re: sex, sneak thieves, and cheats
That in my opinion is a sneak thief... did any of your charies take the time to determine if in fact no one was there or simply assume that the towns were deserted... everything ing game takes a long time to collect or build... one or a small group could be out trying to accomplish something while your charies are messing the whole game up for them... I'm on the verge of leaving because of this BS. I already know of someone who has. A lock can be broken in a day. A chary could be away for a year... so we are for lack of a better word pucked over no matter what. How long does it take to collect enoug wood for a ship? And the cotton for rope sails...?

Re: sex, sneak thieves, and cheats
I do sympathise, g1asswa1ker. It's been a problem for years - it's much easier to destroy a society than to create one. We have so many soulless towns whilst those who do something different (like Xanth) get massacred or subverted into every other society.
However, leaving is not the answer. That only makes things worse. You have to (somehow) find the characters who feel the same as you do. Believe me they are out there, they just generally fall quiet in the face of louder RPers.
And RP sex has always been a problem. I participated in that too, many years ago, and I regret it massively now. But that will always be part of the game and it mostly doesn't actually hurt the rest of us or the game. I did experience a twisted lizard woman rape thing a while ago though, that is the kind of thing which should get a person a ban from Cantr.

But the whole point of cantr is that it allows for literally anything. If the lizard the woman were consenting, would it be that much of a problem?
EDIT: I regret saying this massively.

Re: sex, sneak thieves, and cheats
I've had my stuff stolen while out of town, and I've "claimed" things when I've come across "abandoned" towns. It's the way the game works, imo. If you can't protect your possessions, then you risk losing them. It -should- be difficult for characters to survive on their own. If you don't want your things stolen, and you can't protect them yourself, find yourself a nice town/friends that can watch your stuff for you. That's the whole point of societies - mutual protection and benefit.
Instead of quitting, I suggest taking this as a lesson in human nature and learn from it when you make your next <insert stolen property here>. Don't leave it sitting there looking abandoned.
(for the record, I know exactly what you're ranting about)
I think a reasonable argument to make would be that it's way too easy for anyone to make steel and iron tools. Your stuff gets stolen because anyone with 250g of steel can whip up a crowbar in a day. We can argue that advanced skills that would require specialized education to master shouldn't be part of the standard starting skill set.

I believe I know what this is about as well. Afraid I"m in full agreement with Doug on this one.
