I've noticed that sometimes I feel like I need to be depressed, and that in a strange way enjoy it at times, so long as it doesn't last too long or go too deep. It's like I need my emotions to be roughly balanced, and wouldn't be able to stand being happy all the time even if I could be.

You're not able to taste the highs (at least, not in their most wonderful way) if you haven't hit the bottom and dwelt in it. We need to remind ourselves of that, so we can enjoy those highs, and curious enough, enjoy the lows too (as you say, as far as they don't last to long or go too deep). I call it "quiet melancholy".

@Dingo: Of course it will pass, but don't force the "happy mode". It usually doesn't work. I hope you feel non-forced happy soon.

Haha, I know not to force it, Indigo. I've tried that and failed pretty hard in the past. The whole "Happy Dingo mode" thing was more of a joke at my own expense, which I was using to lighten the mood, and in turn actually start to make me feel better. Which it did. And hearing from everyone has helped a bunch, too. Plus, got some awesome texts from my fiancée, and I'm about to have a bacon-covered pizza for lunch.

Happy Dingo is real!
