Character Diaries

Postby Halley » Mon Aug 23, 2004 6:48 pm

I apologize if this has been a topic before--I'm new to the forums--but does anyone have a character who keeps a diary?

I have one who does, and I think it has been very helpful in developing her personality. She makes references to her pre-20 life, and she also has a chance to basically talk about people behind their backs, which helps me in figuring out how she perceives them. (It's also pretty useful having a list of important events in her life; it's easy to forget when you have a lot of characters to look after.)

But the best part about diaries, I think, is that it leaves something behind after a character has died. It makes a dead character more than just a body on the ground; not to mention such diaries would be immensely valuable in the future, for historical reasons.

Only one of my Characters keeps a diary, but it only talks about her day-to-day activities. She has got kinda bored of it now, but it has got about 4 years worth of information- She used to drop a copy of it in every place she went

Closest I've come is a navagational log on a ship. But have you ever encountered Glen Morangie's books? A bit 'for public consumption', but somewhat akin.

One of my characters would kill for any diary. Well, actually he wouldn't, but rhetorically...yeah.
Some people would be killed by their allies if it were known that they kept a diary. A complete record of your life might be a really dangerous thing to leave behind...

Aye, I have a public navigation log/journal. A few have wrote brief bios about themselves that they keep in case they die. I wrote a private bio for each of my 7 chars so I recall what important things have happened in their lives.

Let's see... Maline has a very detailed one. It started getting a bit boring, but now there's action again. Too bad she has lost count of days and no one has told her yet.. I have been dramatic about it so you better save it after she dies or fear the ghost's revenge.

Jaina has a brief travel journey though if she feels strongly about something, she will write down her feelings.

Lewis is marking down his experiences on an old map while updating it. He has an advanced map in his hands but for some reason he's too fond of the old one to let it go.

Even Seko has a diary, though it is not the note titled "Diary of Seko" since I made that uneditable when I was a stupid noob and didn't know that's permanent. No, it's the other note. At first he wrote quite normally but then I figured that's too clever, so he started making terrible writing mistakes, for example he tends to spell "sowten mowntens" quite often and you should see how he writes the names of some people!!

Gahak got mad of his old map and after writing down what he thinks about it (for a while the title was "This map is a worthless piece of crap", now changed into "I tell you what the world is really like..." if I remember correctly), he started adding notes about the towns he has been to in the bottom. Though his opinions are pretty much expressed out loud, so you wouldn't be surprised of what's in there.

And what I keep forgetting, Yvonne also keeps travel log. It's quite boring...

my traveling character has her map, but she also keeps a travel log.
in the travel log she's got the map information about each town she's been to in order of when she was there, as well as the dates she arrived and left. there's also a breif description of the town and what she did there. she distributes the map where ever she goes, but no one else has seen the travel log.

One of my characters keeps a diary, however it is mostly what she hopes will happen. She is infatuated with another character and enjoys writing about him and the life they would have together if he were to ever notice her. It has some very ammusing parts. She also writes about some of the people she sees, almost in a gossipy way. She will eventually drop a copy, but not for awhile since there is so much more for her to write.

I've always wanted to. Hopefully one of my characters will die soon and I can have a new spawn--I'm tempted to make a new account, but we all know I'd be completely banned if I did. XD

Diaries.

I have one character who has kept a journal as part of her "treatment" for over 14 years.

(Has anyone else ever filled a note completely so that they had to begin a new one?) Well, my char has. She has two notes worth of diary.

She stopped writing in it for a while even, because she thought she was all better. But that turned out to be not so true, or at least things started to get stressful again.

Then is there a reason why you wouldn't keep a copy for yourself to update?

It's not a waste of time, it's history.
