Cool name!

Thanks! It's my username in a lot of places. It comes from an AFI song.

If you can work the phrase "winter is coming" into every post you make on this forum for the next six weeks, you win all my internets.

Starkwords... I give you one hint to success... Attach a signature. "Winter is coming"... 8)

Challenge accepted, Mr. Black.

Thanks! I dig the picture, by the way. Tony Stark has my heart forever.

Well, hai there! :D I kinda sorta feel like I've met you somewhere before. :P Anyway, welcome to the green!

Yep...now we just wait for Starkwords to become addicted (won't be very long, I'm sure) and push that addiction onto yet another one. Lather, rinse, repeat and pretty soon the whole world will be playing. It's like some twisted version of Pay It Forward.

Hi everybody,

I have recently discovered Cantr II and I enjoy playing it a lot. Since this is the first time at RPing for me, I'm still working to get my head out of the comptetitive and grinding modes you find in so many other games and into the "all that matters is the story" that you find here. Therefore I would be happy if someone could point me to a good post on roleplaying here on the boards. What is good roleplaying, what is bad roleplaying, what things are important, what things make the game enjoyable for others etc.

Thanks for your help
and glad to be here.

Hi Estaar, and welcome. There used to be a thread for complaining about characters that annoyed you (for whatever reason). That was a trove of information on people's personal opinions on what is good and bad, but got too flamey so was shut down. I've been playing for a long time, so I'll give you these "survival" pointers:

-Actions/emotes go between asterisks. *He glares at him disapprovingly* (other symbols are also used to denote emotes, but people can figure out who you play very quickly).

-Don't emote things that others present can't see, like thoughts.

-Don't whisper just for the sake of whispering. Many view excessive whispering as rude.

-Don't god-mod others. Characters have the right to respond to your intended role-playing actions. This applies the most in situations where you are role-playing with unfamiliar characters, and you don't know how they will react. For example: *He picks the girl up and throws her into the mud* This might be ok between two characters that know each other, but not for relative strangers. Instead, you could write it as such: *He attempts to pick the girl up and carry her towards the mud.* This leaves the situation unresolved, only gives your character's intent, and allows the other character to react. If the girl doesn't want to be thrown into the mud, she can state resistance or displeasure.

-Role-playing sex requires the consent of all observers and participants. This can get a bit awkward, but you should be sure that the person/people you're rping with are cool with what's going on. Understand that because a player is cool with rping normal-grade sexual scenes doesn't mean they'd be cool if things got cranked up in level of kink or perversion. Some people just don't want to go there. A simple (OOC: my character intends to get a bit more extreme, are you alright with that?) would suffice. If they want clarification, they can ask. This same rule could be applied to graphic violence, such as torture, as well.

-Keep out of character chatter to a minimum It's disruptive, and some find it unwelcome. (a necessary time would be in obtaining consent from another player, for example. Talking about the weather in Seattle is not necessary and is disruptive. There's the irc for chat.) Always precede an out of character comment with ooc:

-Always remember that your characters are not of one mind. They don't know what you know, nor do they know what the others know. They have to find out everything for themselves. The sole exception to this is information in the wiki. All characters can know as much or as little of that information as the player deems fit.

Follow these guidelines, and you'll be fine.

Okay. But why are you pink now?

So I think I'm trying my hand at coming back.. (again x2) after seeing that the homepage is updated and all. Don't konw what happened, but I keep hearing random things about thunder or domestication and updates. So this is pretty exciting :D
