Troubles Logging In?

Is anyone else unable to play their characters right now? For the past few days, I've been able to login, but when I click a character name I get the "you did not login correctly, try again" red bar and the login page again. It was working last Saturday for me, but not since I've been out of the country. I'm in Ireland, does that have anything to do with it? I miss my chars :'(

Maybe because Ireland is the emerald isle and cantr is the green world, there was just too much green and the server could not handle it?

I also get that same bar when it suddenly times me out. Usually right after I have made a long post. [backspace, backspace, copy, paste to word processor and grumble]

Better: Type on word processor, copy, paste to world. When world fails, minimal work to replace!

I'm in Ireland all the time, and have been for years.
It has the worst internet coverage of any country I have ever been in, but don't imagine that's the reason.

Haha, well in Dublin (which I imagine would have the best internet) the internet's still better than what I have in my apartment back home. Even though I'm sharing it with 7 other people.

I've found that switching back and forth from Firefox and Chrome seems to be doing the trick. When one doesn't work, the other usually does. Very strange. Any ideas on why? I'm not a computer savvy sort.

When my browsers play up, I usually empty the cache. I have little clue as to what this actually really does, but it seems to work for me.

The browser cache stores images and data on your hard disk, from frequently and recently visited websites. It supposedly saves on bandwidth, server load and lag... Usually you can adjust how much HD space is reserved for the cache. Clearing it usually ends up being quite essential when the websites you visit update frequently... This is why the Cantr staff recommend the 'hard refresh' to fix many display issues after visible alterations have been made.

If the browsers are mucking about, causing logouts that fix themselves when switching browsers, I'd take a safe bet that it's related to the cache, or saved cookies. It might be worth playing with some of the settings on your browsers, to see if it improves.

When you visit a website, the browser saves parts of it to a 'cache' on your computer. Next time you visit the website, it uses that cache instead of chewing up more internet usage.
One problem can be that when a web page updates, the cache usually doesn't. That's when you need to clear it, and let it 'save' part of the updated page.

It ends up a little like reading last weeks newspaper to get this weeks news. There are settings that let you change the cache size, and how often it's cleared automatically. If you're on an unlimited broadband deal, it's worth auto-clearing the cashe when the browser closes (a setting from your tools/options menu).

For some websites, a combination of cookies and caches and all that jazz, can wreak havoc on staying signed in to a game like Cantr. It can take a few days of tweaking settings to fine tune a browser.

Alas, we're no longer living in the age of the dial-knob telly. We're living in the age when buttons and submenus are the way forward. Remember, if there's less than 32 options or buttons, it's way too outdated.
